Lumberjacks silence Cardinals

The Port Perry Lake Scugog Lumberjacks Bantam Fastball team played the Richmond Hill Cardinals in a regular season game last week.
_In the previous two outings, the Jacks suffered losses so they were anxious to get back on the field to redeem themselves.
_After a scoreless first inning, the Jacks tallied up five runs in the second on a couple base hits and an out of the park homerun from Trent Cooper. Matt Reid also picked up an RBI in the inning, putting the game further out of reach for the Cardinals.
In the top of the third, an additional run came in for Port as Cody Till singled up the middle to pick up an RBI.
_In the fourth inning there was a pitching change for the Cardinals and the boys managed to add another to the tally as Layne O’Halloran knocked in Jeff St. Pierre with his single to right field.
_Starting pitcher Jeff St. Pierre sailed through the Cardinals lineup allowing two hits, one unearned run and striking out 10 batters in four innings of play. Reliever, Clayton Robinson came in for the last two innings allowing only one run on two hits.
_A final pitching change in the fifth inning for the Cardinals seemed to quiet Port Perry’s bats as they could only muster up one hit in the remainder of the game.
_Finals score was 7-2 for Port Perry. It was good to see some quality at bats from the Jacks this night, as the entire line up contributed to this win. Defensively the team did their job committing only one error in the game.
