The top of the Longhorn lineup looks very different in 2011 than it did in 2010.  Sawyer Ward, who was beginning his transformation to the hitter and run producer he is today, was our leadoff hitter.  2010 team mvp, Eric Cullop, added some power from the number two hole in the batting order.  While those two provided a lot of "pop" from the top of the order, neither possessed the game changing speed that sophomores Judd Hammons and Jacob Henson possess.  Through the first five games of the 2011 season Johnson County is has stolen ten bases without having one runner thrown out.  Judd Hammons (3) and Jacob Henson (4) are responsible for seven of those stolen bags.  Hammons leads the team with seven base on balls (BB) and although he is not hitting for a high average in the early going, he still has an on-base percentage of .370 and is tied for third on the team (Mark Jennings) with seven runs scored.  He has also hit the only Varsity triple of the season (at Holston).  Henson is second on the team with nine runs scored and has drew three walks.  He is also hitting at an impressive .318 clip.  Both players have knocked in two runs apiece.  Hammons and Henson are a threat to steal anytime they reach first base.  Most of the time coaches are looking to send a runner on what is known as "breaking ball count" (pitcher is ahead in the count).  With these two it can be a fastball count, but their speed gives them the advantage over the pitcher and catcher.  Jacob Henson has even had third base stolen on two seperate occasions this season if the Longhorn batter would have taken the pitch.  The 2011 season is only a precursor to what we expect out of these two in the future, but we are excited about what they can do for our baseball club now.
