Posted May 6/11 - Horns Drop Tough 5-4 Decision to Raiders

There is nothing in the game of baseball that compares to postseason play.  You can cut the intensity with a knife.  Every pitch, play, and at-bat are crucial, because they could be the determining factor in a game that goes a long way towards determining the outcome of your season.  We gave our best pither, #25, Mark Jennings, the ball on Friday night and he pitched like an ace pitcher pitches.  Jennings surrendered 5 runs (4 earned) in a 6 inning, 103 pitch effort.  Sullivan North scored a run in the first after #2, Derek Price, who led the game off with a single, reached 3B on a Johnson County throwing error and then scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield from North Pitcher, #11, Dylan Price.  The Longhorns tied the game at 1 in the top of the 2nd when catcher, Danny Herman, doubled to the centerfield fence, scoring centerfielder, Sammy Hampton, who reached on a fielder's choice.  Sullivan North scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd to go up 2-1.  The scored remained that way in a pitchers duel, until the Raiders scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to go up 5-1.  The Longhorns battled back in the top of the 7th, as a two out double by Mark Jennings started the Longhorn comeback.  Jennings then scored on an error by the North third baseman that allowed Sawyer Ward to reach.  An Austin Humphrey single gave the Longhorns runners at 1st and 2nd.  Sammy Hampton then knocked in Ward and Humphrey on a double of his own, to the right-center gap, to make the score 5-4.  Danny Herman, who had already doubled and singled in the game, went down swinging to end the game with Sammy Hampton, who had advanced to third base on a passed ball, stranded as the tying run.  Johnson County has to rebound quickly, as we play the Happy Valley Warriors tomorrow at 6:00 in the losers bracket, because the Warriors lost on Friday to the Unicoi County Blue Devils.  Sammy Hampton will be on the mound for Johnson County.  We hope to see you at Anglin Field on Saturday.
