After Monday's loss at the hands of the Elizabethton Cyclones here are the Three Rivers Conference standings:
ConferenceOverall Elizabethton Cyclones 11-1 19-6 Sullivan East Patriots 9-4 17-8 Unicoi County Blue Devils 7-6 11-14 Johnson County Longhorns 5-8 10-9 Sullivan North Raiders 4-9 8-14 Happy Valley Warriors 1-11 2-18
Ryan Mahala will take his 5-1 record to the mound today vs. the Sullivan North Raiders. Unicoi beat Sullivan East on Monday, eliminating our competition for third place with Unicoi in the Three Rivers Conference regular season race because the Blue Devils hold the tiebreaker over us. If the Raiders were to beat us today, Tuesday, April 24th, we would share identical 5-9 conference records with Sullivan North, but we own the tiebreaker because Mahala's two wins agains North (March 20th/April 9th) gave us the season series. In the District 1 AA Tournament the #1 and #2 seeds get a bye (Cyclones and Patriots). The third seed, Unicoi, will play the #6 seed, Happy Valley. For the second consecutive year we will open up with Sullivan North, but this year we would be the home team and have the last at-bat because we will be the higher seed, if things hold up as they are now. A win today would give us six conference wins and give us sole possession of fourth. If we lose today we would have to beat Sullivan East on Monday to finish fourth outright or hope North loses their final conference game next week against Elizabethton. We went into the 2011 District 1 AA Tournament as the #5 seed and lost to North in the opener before eliminating Happy Valley and North, prior to being knocked out by Elizabethton. A win on Tuesday will give us the season sweep of Sullivan North, move us back up to two games over .500, and give us a fourth place record all of our own. Hope to see you at the ballpark today.
