Posted Mar 30/10 - Warriors 11 Longhorns 9
Wow!!!  That is the only word to describe Tuesday's game against the Happy Valley Warriors.  We were down 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth, and battled back to make it 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.  We were down 11-4 after the Warriors scored 5 runs in the top of the seventh, and scored 5 of our own in the bottom of the seventh, to make the final score 11-9.  We had twelve hits against the Warriors and are averaging ten runs per game on the season.  Eric Cullop, who is hitting .529 on the season, went 3-4 with a 2B, and a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.  Tyler Fenner raised his batting average to .471, as he went 2-4, including his first career home run, a two run shot over the left field wall, in the bottom of the fifth.  Sawyer Ward matched Cullop's three hits, and also is matching Cullop with a team leading .529 batting average.  Ward also scored twice.  Outfielder, Austin Humphrey, also had a couple of base hits, knocked in a run, and scored another.  Mark Jennings and starting pitcher, Sammy Hampton, also collected hits for the Longhorns.  Johnson County has hit more home runs already during the 2010 baseball season than it did during the entire 2009 season.  Offensively, we feel we match up with anyone in the Three Rivers Conference.  We always try to be balanced here in the "insider."  I say that to say that this, we must improve on the mound if we are going to win in our conference.  We have a team ERA of 5.42, and that looks better than it really is thanks to Cody Greer's shutout of the Hampton Bulldogs.  Defensively we have played well, but we struggled against the Warriors, committing five errors on Tuesday afternoon.  We have the potential to have a really good ball club, but we must play well in all facets of the game.  The Longhorns have a chance to quickly get revenge against Happy Valley, as they travel to Cannon-Gouge Park to face the Warriors on Thursday afternoon.  We have said that this week will tell us a lot about our baseball club.  So far we know we can hit the baseball.  So far we know we can score runs.  We think we are a good defensive club, and we expect our pitchers to get in a rhythm as the weather improves.
