Posted Apr 24/10 - Danny Herman powers Longhorns past Highlanders

Junior, Danny Herman, put in a lot of work this winter on his swing.  He worked on staying through the baseball and getting good extension.  Danny was rewarded for his hard work with a career day on Friday at Cloudland.  He hit solo home runs in the top of the 2nd and the top of the 4th.  Herman raised his season batting average to .389 (7-18).  He was not the only one hitting the long ball.  Tyler Fenner hit his 4th of the year, a solo shot in the 3rd.  Eric Cullop hit his 2nd of the 2010 season in the top of the 5th, and after being robbed by Cloudland centerfielder, S. Miller, in the 4th, shortstop, Cody Greer, hit his first career home run in the 6th.  The neat thing about Greer's home run is that we were trying to get all of our roster in the game, and we had begun to empty the bench, and pinch hit for people.  We discussed allowing someone to pinch hit for Greer, but Coach Pavusek said, "Let's let him stay in and hit a home run," and Cody Greer did just that.  This was our fourth game of the week, and our pitching staff was depleted, so Sawyer Ward stepped up for Johnson County.  The versatile Ward, made his first start of the 2010 season on the mound.  He shut out Cloudland over 5 innings of work.  Sawyer struck out 6 and only walked one Highlander batter.  Ward helped his own cause, by going 2-3 at the plate, knocking in a run, and scoring another.  Eric Cullp added a base hit to his home run, to finish 2-3, with 2 runs scored.  Tyler Fenner also added a hit to his home run as well, to finish 2-3.  Cody Greer added a 2B to his home run to also finish 2-3 too.  Many times Cloudland hurts themselves by making several defensive miscues, but on Friday, they played a good baseball game defensively, to keep the game somewhat competitive.  The Longhorns host the Elizabethton Cyclones on Monday.  The Cyclones will be looking to get a measure of revenge on Johnson County, after the Horns came back from a 5-0 deficit, to beat Elizabethton 7-6, on a Sammy Hampton walk off base hit on Tuesday, April 15th.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.
