Monona Moves On To Final Four
On Sunday, Monona moved on to the Final Four when they defeated Sun Prairie 8-3. Monona avenged there only two loses of the season. Boomer Gugel drove in two runs and Matt McCormick, Elliott Brakmanis and Mike Slinde each had RBI's in the win. Zac Najacht worked nine innings, walking seven and striking out six. "Pitching was key (Sunday)" said Monona second baseman Shawn Burcum, who went 4 for 5. "Zac was clutch (and) came up with big pitches. Monona plays Verona at Stampfl Field in Verona next Sunday in the first round of the playoffs. Then it will host Fort Atkinson on Sept. 6th and will host Cross Plains on Sept. 13th
Monona Advances In Playoffs
Monona advanced on Sunday with a win over Deforest 5-2. Zac Najacht struck out seven in a complete game effort and Alex Bauer smashed a three-run homer in the third inning to lead Monona. Monona advances to play Sun Prairie next Sunday at 1pm at Cottage Grove, the winner the moves on to the Final Four.
Monona Looks To Redeem Loss
This coming Sunday in Monona, 16-1, will face Sun Prairie, 15-2 in the Eastern Section finale. Monona will look to redeem their only lose of the season and look to gain home field advantage through out the playoffs. Game time for the final down at Ahuska Park is 1:00pm.
Two Represent Monona In HTL All-Star Game
This coming Friday night at Warner Park, Home Talent is having an all-star game featuring all four sections. Alex Bauer and Zac Najacht will be representing Monona in the game. The Eastern Section and the Southeast will join forces to play the Western Section and Northern. Game time is 7:05.
Monona Sweeps Weekend Double Dip
Monona got closer to clinching the Eastern Section title with two wins over the weekend. On Saturday, Monona defeated Rio 2-1. Corey Schmidt pitched seven shutout innings . Alex Elliott had a two-out RBI single to drive in Shawn Burcum in the seventh to give Monona a 2-0 lead. On Sunday, Monona routed Marshall 12-2, Alex Bauer drove in three runs and Zac Najacht gave up one run in six innings.
Monona Ends Busy Weekend With Win
This past weekend Monona was busy with three baseball games. On Saturday in the semi-finals of the National Baseball Congress tournament Monona defeated Chaseburg-Coon Valley 13-7. Monona was led by Cory McCullick who was 3x5 with a homerun. Nathan Marlowe pitched five innings to get the win. With the win Monona advanced to the championship to face Clyman. In the championship, Monona came up just short when Clyman's Shaun Wegner's hit a one-out walkoff homerun to win, 2-1. Monona's Paul Zweifel pitched five solid innings for Monona before giving way to Corey Schmidt. Alex Elliott, Nathan Marlowe, Cory McCullick and Paul Zweifel were named to the all-tournament team and Cory McCullick also received the best hitter award batting .571. On Sunday, Matt McCormick drove in two runs and Zac Najacht allowed seven hits while striking out five over eight innings in the win. Timmy Alexander got the save in relief.
Monona Advances To Semi's In NBC
Last weekend, Monona beat Sauk Prairie on Friday night 2-1 and defeated Verona 8-5 to advance in the National Baseball Congress tournament. Monona will take on Chaseburg-Coon Valley on Saturday July 18th at Sauk Prairie. 11:30am is first pitch in Sauk Prairie. The winner will move on to play the winner of Clyman and Green Bay. The winner of the NBC will move on with a chance to play in Wichita, Kansas.
Monona Pulls Away From Columbus
Monona pulled away from Columbus on Sunday and won 14-6. Shawn Burcum, Elliott Brakmanis, Josh Groves and Matt McCormick each had two RBI's. Corey Schmidt worked five innings to get the win and Zac Najacht came in, in relief to get the save.
Monona Takes Two On Holiday Weekend
Monona swept a doubleheader over the weekend to remain in first place in the eastern section. On Saturday, Monona defeated Poynette 7-4. Elliott Brakmanis delivered a three-run homer in a four-run fifth. Corey Schmidt got the win and Timmy Alexander got the save in relief. On Sunday, Monona won a wild game 12-10 over rival Cottage Grove. Mike Slinde cracked a fifth-inning grand slam and piled on four more runs in the seventh. Slinde's slam gave Monona a 7-6 lead, but Cottage Grove answered and took a 9-7 lead. Monona went ahead for good on Alex Bauer's bases-loaded two-run single in the seventh. Paul Zweifel came in, in relief to get the win and Timmy Alexander got his second save of the weekend.
Monona Tops DeForest
Matt McCormick's two-out double scored Chris Alexander with the winning run as Monona beat host DeForest 9-8 on Sunday. Elliott Brakmanis led off the ninth with a walk and was replaced by Alexander. After a sacrifice and a groundout, McCormick delivered. Corey Schmidt work 4 innings of relief to get the win and Tim Alexander came in, in the ninth to get the save.
Monona Keeps Rolling
Monona continued to play good ball this past Sunday by defeating Poynette 9-1. With the win Monona improves to 9-1 on the season and in first place in the eastern section. Zac Najacht got the win going six innings and giving up one earned run. He also struck out seven. The offense was led by Jay Gugel who went 3x5 and Boomer Gugel, Elliott Brakmanis, Alex Bauer, Mike Slinde and Erik Massey chipped in two hits a piece. Monona travels to rival DeForest next Sunday.
Monona Takes Two Over The Weekend
Monona improved to 8-1 on the season by sweeping the two games played this past weekend. On Saturday Monona cruised past Rio 12-3. Alex Bauer hit a three-run homerun and Elliott Brakmanis hit a run-scoring single in a five run seventh. Bauer finished with four RBI's and Matt McCormick drove in three. Corey Schmidt earned the victory with seven solid innings. On Sunday, Mike Slinde went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and Zac Najacht recorded seven strikeouts in eight innings to get the win. Monona Defeats Rival Cottage Grove
Monona defeated Cottage Grove 9-3 in an Eatern Section game Sunday afternoon. The Braves were led by Elliott Brakmanis who went 2-3 with 3 RBI's. Zac Najacht went 7 strong innings, to get the win.
Monona Pounds DeForest
Monona defeated DeForest 13-3 in 8 innings on Sunday at Ahuska Park. Monona was led by Boomer Gugel who was 4x5 and Josh Groves who went 3x6 with 3 RBI's. Najacht went 7 strong innings to get the win. Monona will travel to rival Cottage Grove next weekend.
Monona Takes Two
Over Memorial Day weekend Monona took two games from eastern section foes. On Sunday afternoon Monona defeated Columbus 12-2. Monona was led by Shawn Burcum who was 4x5 with 5 RBI's. Boomer Gugel and Karl Reynolds combined to go 5x7. On Monday, Monona had to come back from a 3-1 deficit and went on to win 15-6. Zac Najacht worked 6 innings to get the win. Monona was led by Boomer Gugel who went 4x4 in the game. Monona improved to 4-1, which puts them in a four way tie for first place.
Monona Gets Back On Track
A week after losing to Sun Prairie, Monona got back on track by shutting out Waterloo 9-0. Monona was lead by a strong performence by starting pitcher Sean Petty. Petty went eight innings while striking out eight. The offense was lead by Shawn Burcum who was 2-4 and Boomer Gugel who went 2-4. Alex Bauer chipped in three RBI's in the game.
Monona Blanks McFarland
Zac Najacht pitched 7 shutout innings while stiking out 10. Shawn Burcum broke the game open with a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Chris Alexander and newcomer Karl Reynolds. Monona takes on Sun Prairie next Sunday at Sun Prairie.
Season Opener Gets Washed Out
The season opener got rained out on Sunday and no make-up date was made.
Monona's Zweifel Walks Off In Fashion
Paul Zweifel hit a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning to lead Monona over Jefferson in an exhibition game in Fort Atkinson. Cory Schmidt got the win in relief.
Monona Opens Season By Hosting Rio
Monona will open eastern section play against Rio on Sunday, April 26. The seasons first pitch is at 1:00pm at Ahuska Park in Monona.
Monona Getting Ready To Host Fundraiser
Starting Saturday Jan 17th and going every Sat. and Sun. through Feb. 8th, Monona Home Talent will host the biggest doubles bowling tournament in the state of Wisconsin. The event will be held at Village Lanes in Monona. The first shift will start at 12:30 with the second shift following at 3:30. Cost is $16 dollars per person. If interested please contact Village Lanes in Monona and ask for the Monona Home Talent doubles tournament.
Burcum Claims Section MVP Award
Shawn Burcum received his section MVP award at the Home Talent Banquet. Burcum finished 2nd in the league in hitting behind Waterloo's Tyler Sellnow.
Monona Will Not Repeat As HTL Champs
Monona was beaten by Sun Prairie 5-4 in the Eastern Section Semi's. Monona took a 4-1 lead into the 9th and could not hold on to it. Matt McCormick finished 2x3 with two RBIs and Alex Bauer finish 2x4. Zac Najacht went eight strong innings striking out six.
Monona Hosts Sun Prairie In First Round
Monona will host Sun Prairie in an Eastern Section Sectional game at 1:00pm on Sunday at Ahuska Park. Monona defeated Sun Prairie twice during the regular season. The winner will take on the winner of the Deforest/McFarland on August 17th.
Monona clinches Eastern Section Championship
Monona clinched the Eastern Section title on Saturday with a 13-1 win against Waterloo. Alex Bauer went 4x5 with five rbi's and Josh Gauwitz had a bases clearing double in the win.

With Monona's win over Columbus, Monona has a chance to win the Eastern Section and clinch home field advantage with a win over Waterloo today. Waterloo vs. Monona starts today at 1pm at Ahuska Park.
Monona suffers loss to Rio 8-4
Rio overcame an early 3-1 Monona lead to win 8-4.Monona suffered its second loss in the past three games. Monona still holds a game and a half lead in the Eastern Section. Monday travels to play Columbus on Friday night at 7:00 pm, then on Saturday hosts Waterloo in a make-up game starting at 1:00pm at Ahuska Park in Monona.
Monona edges McFarland
Monona edged McFarland 10-9 in an Eastern Section game on Saturday. Matt McCormick 's three run double and a two run single by Shawn Burcum highlighted an eight run fifth inning. Burcum added an RBI single in the sixth when Monona took the lead for good.
Monona beats Sun Prairie Twice
Boomer Gugel singled home Alex Elliott to put Monona over the top in the first game 5-4. In the second game Elliott Brakmanis had three RBI's in a 6-1 win over Sun Prairie.
Monona tops Marshall
Josh Gauwitz had four RBI's and Chris Alexander had three as Monona beat Marshall 10-8. Gauwitz had a two-run double in a four-run third and Alexander doubled in two in a four-run fourth.
Monona and Sun Prairie suspended 4-4 in the 10th
Sun Prairie and Monona played nine innings on Sunday before the rain came. The game will be picked up in the top of the tenth on Friday July 4th, starting at noon. The second game will start 20-25 minutes after the first game is final.

Monona wins thriller over Poynette
With Monona down to its last out in the ninth inning and down by a run DH Elliott Brakmanis delievered with a two run single to give Monona the lead. Monona entered the ninth trailing 7-5. Chris Alexander led of the inning by getting hit, Boomer Gugel followed with a walk. After a failed bunt attempt, Alex Bauer walked. Following a strikeout by Shawn Burcum, Matt McCormick walked to bring the score to 7-6. After a pitching change Brakmanis hit a 1-2 fastball past the third basemen, scoring Gugel and Bauer. Clint Seltzner got the save in the ninth thanks to Alex Elliott who threw out a runner at the plate to end the game. Timmy Alexander got the win in relief.
Monona prevails against Cottage Grove
Monona prevailed on Sunday at Cottage Grove. Monona overcame five errors and a one run deficit to improve to 6-0 in the Eastern Section. Monona scored three times in the 8th and one run in the 9th and held on to the lead, thanks to closer Tim Alexander. Zac Najacht went eight innings to get the win. The offense which had ten hits was led by catcher, Shawn Burcum(2x5) and second basemen, Jay Gugel(2x3).
Monona escapes close call against Columbus
Monona escaped with a 4-2 win over Columbus in an Eastern Section game on Memorial Day. Monona trailed the whole game but with one Mike Slinde swing of the bat, he gave Monona lead for good. Slinde hit a 3-1 pitch in the bottom of the 8th inning over the left field wall to give Monona a 4-2 lead. Sean Petty threw 8 strong innings and Clint Seltzner came in, and threw the 9th to get the save. Mike Slinde ended up with all 4 RBI's for Monona.
Monona defeats undefeated Marshall
Monona scored 6 runs in the 1st and never looked back. Pat Kelter doubled in the 1st to left field with the bases loaded, that scored 2 runs. Zac Najacht went 7 strong innings to lead Monona to victory.
