Game 19

Monroe College – 11

University of Conn. Avery Point – 13

Game 2 at Avery Point was a thriller and was decided in the final at bat. Gerald Barrios starting pitcher for Monroe threw 5 innings and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5. Barrios left the game after 5 innings and handed an 11-5 lead to the bullpen. The Mustang relief was shaky as they walked 2 batter and hit 2 batters in the 6th which provided the lift that UCAP needed as they immediately scored 5 runs in the 6th to make the score 11-10 and pull to within 1 run. With the Mustangs leading by a run in the final inning Closer Luis Carasquillo allowed 2 runners to get on base. Pedro Perez was called from the bullpen and was able to record an out before Avery Points’ Cleanup Hitter hit a 3 run homer to Left Field that gave Avery Point the victory and Monroe another hard fought Loss.

Game 18

Monroe College – 2

University of Conn. Avery Point – 3

On Sunday April 13th Monroe College visited University of Conn. at Avery Point where they dropped the first of 2 games by a score of 3-2. Jonathan Gonzalez of New York City threw well on a day when he did not have his best stuff. Gonzalez held a strong Avery Point ballclub to only 3 runs on the day. Gonzalez kept his team in the game but Avery Points’ starting pitcher matched him and was slightly better as he worked his way out of trouble and was able to preserve the lead for his team as they snapped the Mustang winning streak at 4. The Mustangs did not lay down, they fought hard and had the tying run on base in several innings but could not capitalize and ultimately lost another close ballgame.

Game 17

Monroe College – 5

Sussex CC – 2

The Mustangs played well in game 2 of the doubleheader vs. Sussex and were able to hold on to a 5-2 lead to earn the victory. Starting Pitcher Joel Sanchez pitched a complete game and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5 on his way to the win. Norman Gosselin and Luis Caceres each homered in the contest as Monroe went on to win its 4th in a row and 5 of the last 6 games.

Game 16

Monroe College – 9

Sussex CC – 2

On Saturday April 12th the Mustangs defeated Sussex CC in game 1 of a doubleheader by a score of 9-2. Freshman Norman Gosselin was the story once again as he Pitched 6 inning and allowed only 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3 en route to his 4th win of the season. At the Plate Gosselin turned in an equally impressive performance as he went 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Freshman Jose Rosario, who has been hot as of late also went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.

Game 15

Monroe College – 4

Orange CC – 0

On Thursday April 10th the Mustangs travelled to Orange County N.Y. were they beat Orange Community College by a score of 4-0. Vincent Fiore of Brooklyn, N.Y. looked sharp once again, throwing a complete game shutout, his first of the year. Fiore had a no hitter through 5 innings of work when he allowed his first and only hit of the game. With the win Fiore improves his record to 3 wins and 1 loss on the season. Second baseman Pierre Crespo provided the offense and was responsible for all 4 Mustang runs in the win. Crespo went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and 1 run scored. The big hit came in 4th inning when Crespo Tripled with the bases loaded to give Monroe a 3-0 lead. Crespo went to the plate again in the 8th inning with a runner on third base and hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a much needed insurance run and give Monroe a 4-0 lead going into the final inning.

Game 14

Monroe College – 18

Dutchess CC – 9

The Mustangs scored a season high 18 runs on Thurday in the victory over Dutchess Community College. The offense was led by rightfielder Norman Gosselin, 3 for 5, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI, and Shortstop Jose Macias, 3 for 4, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Catcher Luis Caceres also went 2 for 3 with 4 RBI and hit a 3 run bomb in the 6th inning to give Monroe the extra cushion they would need to come away with the victory. Freshman Lefthander Gerald Barrios of Carolina, P.R. got the win as Carlos Hidalgo and Hector Rodriguez came out of the bullpen to preserve the lead for the Mustangs.

Game 13

Monroe College – 12

Union County CC – 13

The Mustangs dropped the 2nd game of the doubleheader to Union County by a score of 13-12. The loss was tough to take considering that the mustangs fought back to overcome a 6 run deficit. Down 9-3 in the 4th inning the Mustangs fought back and scored 5 runs in the 5th and 4 runs in the 6th to take a commanding 3 run lead into the bottom of the 7th. Morris would not lay down in the 7th as they scored 4 runs off of Monroe Closer Luis Carrasquillo to take the game away from the Mustangs. The Mustangs record now stands at 8-6.

Game 12

Monroe College – 10

Union County CC – 2

On Sunday March 30th the Mustangs defeated Union County CC by a score of 10-2. Orlando Garcia, 3 for 3, 2 runs scored, 1SB, and 2 RBI and Robin Bugallo, 3 for 4, 3 runs scored, 3 doubles and 3 RBI got the offense off to a great start in a game were they scored a total of 10 runs. Bugallo has been red hot as of late going 7 for 12 with 3 walks in his last 15 plate appearances. Starting pitcher Vincent Fiore of Brooklyn, New York was very impressive once again. Fiore pitched 5 innings, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5 to earn his 2nd win of the season and the Mustangs 8th.

Game 11

Monroe College – 2

County College of Morris – 3

In game 2 the Mustangs fell short once again as they dropped a heartbreaker to County College of Morris by a score of 3-2. County College of Morris took the lead early scoring a run in the second inning off of Starting Pitcher Joel Sanchez who pitched well despite taking the Loss. Sanchez settled down after the second inning & pitched the entire game allowing only 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 6. The Mustangs were able to recapture the lead in the 5th inning and held it until the bottom of the 7th when Morris scored 2 runs in their last at bat to take the lead and the game by a score of 3-2. The Mustangs record now stands at 7 wins and 5 losses.

Game 10

Monroe College – 13

County College of Morris – 6

On Saturday March 29th the Monroe College batmen travelled to Randolph, New Jersey where they split a doubleheader with County College of Morris. The Mustangs took game 1 by a score of 13-6, behind the strong pitching of Freshman Norman Gosselin who pitched 5 innings, struck out 6 and gave up only two earned runs on his way to his second win of the season. Centerfielder Fabian Valdez continued to scorch the ball going 2 for 3 with 1 triple, 1 stolen base, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Freshman Robin Bugallo of Miami, Florida also had an excellent day at the plate gathering 3 hits in 5 at bats with 1 double and 3 RBI in the win.

Game 9

Monroe College – 7

Mercer – 8

On Friday the Mustangs lost their third straight game as they were defeated by Mercer Community College by a score of 8-7. Gerald Barrios started and pitched well in the loss. Barrios settled down after allowing 5 runs in the first two innings and held a strong Mercer team scoreless until the 7th inning. Barrios allowed only 1 earned run in the game and ultimately the Mustangs fell victim to sloppy defense once again as they committed 6 errors on the day. The most crucial of those errors came in the 7th inning when with 2 outs the Mustangs failed to execute a routine play which led to 3 unearned runs and gave Mercer an 8-3 lead. On a side note, Roque Lozada and Hector Rodriguez pitched well in relief for the Mustangs and held Mercer scoreless in the 8th and 9th innings, but the Mustangs were unable to mount a comeback as they once again stranded the tying run on first base in the 9th inning. The Mustangs record now stands at 5 wins and 4 losses.

Game 8

Monroe College – 8

Bronx CC – 10

On Thursday, Monroe College visited Bronx CC where the Broncos avenged their Monday afternoon loss by beating the Mustangs 10-8. After trailing the entire game the Mustangs made a valiant effort to come back in the 9th inning. First baseman Luis Carasquillo hit a grand slam to pull the Mustangs within 2 runs, however, that was as close as they would come as they took their third loss of the season.

Game 7

Monroe College – 7

Bronx CC – 8

On Tuesday the Mustangs visited Middlesex CC in New Jersey where they were handed their second loss of the season by a score of 8-7. The Mustangs fought hard to pull within 1 run, scoring 4 times in the 9th inning but were stopped short as they stranded the tying run on base to end the game. Monroe starter Pedro Perez, of Miami, Florida threw well in the loss but could not come away with the win in a game were the Mustang defense committed 4 errors.

Game 6

Monroe College – 10

Bronx CC – 0

The Mustangs resumed their season in New York on Monday at Bronx Community College where they defeated the Broncos by a score of 10-0. The Mustangs took the lead early scoring 2 runs in the 1st and 3 runs in the second inning. Pitching was solid once again, Vincent Fiore pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 hits and 0 runs while striking out 4 batters on his way to his first win of the season. Shortstop Jose Macias, 3 for 4, 2 doubles, 1 RBI and Centerfielder Fabian Valdez, 3 for 5, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI got the Mustangs off to a great start offensively. The Mustangs record now stands at 5 wins and 1 Loss.

Game 5

Monroe College – 7

Westmoreland – 5

The Mustangs finished their trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with another win over Westmoreland CC by a score of 7-5. Freshman Gerald Barrios pitched 5 innings for the win. The lefty allowed only 1 run on 2 hits over 5 innings of work to give the Mustangs their 4th win of the season as they return home to New York. Closer Luis Carrasquillo came into the game in the 7th with 2 runners and Westmoreland looking to tie the game, Carrasquillo retired the next two batters to earn his first save of the year.

Monroe College – 9

Garrret College – 5

The Mustangs Pitching Staff continued to dominate on Saturday afternoon as Monroe College cruised to a 9-5 victory over Garrett College of Maryland. Jonathan Gonzalez was sharp in his first outing of the year. Gonzalez was in control throughout the game as he shut down the Garrett offense, he threw 5 innings and allowed only 2 hits and 0 runs while striking out 9 batters for the win. Matthew Beauchesne continued to scorch the ball at the plate, going 2 for 2, with a triple and his 2nd homerun of the season. Shortstop Jose Macias, 2 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 RBI and Centerfielder Fabian Valdez, 2 for 4, 3 runs scored and 3 stolen bases also had an excellent afternoon at the plate.

Game 3

Monroe College – 12

Westmoreland – 2

On Saturday Monroe College defeated Westmoreland CC by a score of 12 – 2. The Mustangs took the lead early in the game and never looked back. The offense was sparked by Norman Gosselin who went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 2 triples and 4 RBI in his debut in right field for the Mustangs. Catcher Luis Caceres had a fine day as well with 3 hits in 3 at bats, 2 runs scored, and 2 doubles on the day. The Mustang pitching looked dominant as Joel Sanchez of Miami went 5 strong innings to get the win. Sanchez allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in his first outing of the year.

Game 2

Monroe College – 6

St Louis CC – 10

The Mustangs dropped game 2 to St. Louis CC by a score of 10-6. Vincent Fiore pitched well in the loss, however the lack of defense and poor baserunning proved to be the deciding factor in the game. The Mustang defense committed 6 errors and several costly baserunning mistakes which St Louis CC quickly took advantage of, scoring 7 unearned runs on their way to the victory. On a positive note Carlos Hughes hit his first homer of the year, a 3 run blast which gave the Mustangs a short lived lead in the 3rd inning.

Game 1

Dean College - 2

Monroe College - 7

The Monroe College Mustangs opened their season in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, where they split their first 2 games on Friday. The Mustangs defeated the Dean College Bulldogs in Game 1 by a score of 7-2. Freshman Normand Gosselin of Quebec City pitched 6 innings to give the Mustangs their first win of the season. Gosselin struck 9 batters while only allowing 4 hits in the victory. Matthew Beauchesne - 3 hits, 2 runs 1 RBI,including a solo HR and Omar Hernandez 2 hits, 1 run and 2 RBI with a 2 run bomb provided the offense, capping a 6 run 2nd inning with back to back homers for the Mustangs. Fabian Valdes was also a major contributor at the plate going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and1 run scored on the day.
