Game Notes: Great first game against South Carolina--We came to play today--especially defense. Branan McGee led off the game with a solid triple and Brandan Maier got a nice single to score him. We couldn't get any more runs across, but we swung the bat well. In the bottom of the first, we held the Gamecock scoreless with a niceplay from Mcgee to first and 2 strikeouts. In the top of the 2nd, Jalen led off with an inside the park homer. He was flying around the bases. Mitch followed with a triple and Anthony got a huge 2 out single to drive in Mitch from 3rd. In the bottom half, after 2 were on and 2 strikeouts, Jonah made a great play to throw out a runner from Short to end their rally. Our bats came alive in the 3rd. McGee and Maier had 2 singles and Jonah followed with a deep fly to center that hit off the fence and they all came flying around the bases for an inside the park 3 run homer. Jalen crushed it again for a triple, then Mitch got a big 2 out RBI single. In the bottom of the 3rd, we held them scoreless again! We went scoreless in the 4th. The Gamecocks bats came alive in the bottom, but they could only muster 3 runs against a strong tide defense.
All around great game. Everyone ran the bases really well. We made some really nice plays in the infield. We threw someone out from every infield position except pitcher (no balls were hit there). Jalen had a nice play to throw a runner out from the hot corner. Jonah threw out several from SS and Branan Mcgee threw out the first batter of the game from 2nd. Dawson payed well at first and caught a couple of short hops to save some bad throws. We looked really well all around. I think 1st game jitters got out bats a little. I expect us to play better from here on out and everyone improve. Defense wins games and we play great defense! Final score Bama 7 USC 3.
