The Bombers remain undefeated at 4-0 on the season after an impressive 17-8 win versus the Ellisville Hornets in Ellisville. The Bombers jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. With the win, the Bombers moved into a tie for 1st Place with the 4-0 Ellisville Chargers in the National Red Division.
The senior member of our Ballwin Bombers, Steven Delia, celebrated his 9th birthday and was awarded the SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD for the second time this season. Steven is honored for helping our catchers with the gear between innings, for cheering his teammates from the dugout, for cleaning up the bats in the on-deck circle between hitters, and for chasing down foul balls behind the dugout. Thanks for being a great teammate, Steven!
The GOLD GLOVE AWARD for the game was shared by both Matthew Wynn and Parker Higginbotham. Matthew shares the award for the second game in a row after catching a fly ball at 2nd Base in the second inning, and then alertly throwing to Michael Hojnacki at 1st Base to complete the Bombers second double play on the young season. For the game, Matthew had a total of 2 putouts and an assist at 2nd Base. Parker is awarded the GOLD GLOVE for the first time for catching a high fly ball in Right Field in the fourth inning, and for several great plays in the outfield whereby he cut off the ball in the gap and got the ball into the infield quickly to hold runners to singles. For the game, Parker had a total of 3 putouts, including two at 1st Base.
Three members of our Bombers share the SILVER SLUGGER AWARD for game 4 after each of these boys got hits in every at bat. Bennett Hacala is honored with the SILVER SLUGGER for going 4 for 4 with a double, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Michael Hojnacki wins his second SILVER SLUGGER for also going 4 for 4 on the night with a double, 3 runs and 2 RBIs. But the evening belonged to the birthday boy, Steven Delia, who wins his first SILVER SLUGGER for going 3 for 3, with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs, including an Inside The Park 2-run Homer in the 5th inning. Before the game, Steven's father Nick promised to shave his head if Steven were to hit a home run...however, after his son raced around the bases at lightning speeds, Nick clarified his challenge by stating that only homers which clear the fence will bring out the barber clippers on the 1mm setting. The case is being submitted to an arbitrator, who is expected to rule within days. Stay tuned...
