Game Notes: Bama 17, Ga. Tech 10
WOW, what a game today. We came out in the first inning and really played some defense and set the tone for the entire game. We play defense better than anyone in the league fundamentally. All the kids are learning how to play the game the right way. Both infield and outfield did exactly what we have practiced and preached for weeks. We are starting to gel into a very good team.
In the top of the first, we showed what we can do with the leather. The lead off hitter grounded to Jonah and he threw him out easily to Dawson. Jonah and Dawson are easily the best SS to 1B combination in the league! Ga Tech helped us with 2 strikeouts and didn't score in the first. In the bottom half, our bats were smoking HOT. Branan led off with another hit and moved all the way to 3rd on a bad throw. Alex knocked him in with a solid single to center. Dawson followed with a single. Jonah followed with a 2 run triple to deep left field. Jalen knocked in Jonah with a solid single to center. Griffin had a great hit to knock Jalen in for the 5th run of the inning. We scored 5 runs on 6 batters...can't get any better than that! No one made an out in the first inning! We knocked the cover off the ball.
In the second inning, Tech scored only 3 runs. Mitch had a nice play at second base and flipped the ball to 2nd for a nice force out. After couple of hits, Tech hit the ball to Jonah who stepped on the bag at 2nd and threw to first wide of the bag. Branan picked the ball up and threw back to Jonah for a double play as they tried to get an extra base on the over throw. Great hustle and recognition by Branan at first base! In the bottom half, we scored 2 runs on hits by David, Brandon, Calvin, Mitch, and Will. We hit the ball well again to keep the pressure on!
In the 3rd inning, we got Tech out 1-2-3. The first batter struck out and the next two hit the ball to Jonah for easy outs at first! Our bats stayed hot in the bottom half! After 1 was out, Branan got another hit followed by Alex with a hit. Dawson had an RBI single, then Jonah hit a double to left to score Dawson. Jalen had another hit to knock in Jonah and Griffin kept it going with an infield hit. David finished it off with an RBI single to make the score 12-3 after 3.
In the 4th , Tech scored 3 runs on 4 hits. They struck out once and Jonah threw out his 5th batter of the game from SS! Then a line drive right to Jonah finished the inning. Jonah had an outstanding day on defense and it was absolutely the wrong place to hit the ball today. We scored 5 again in the bottom of the 4th. We had hits from Brandon, Mitch, and Will. Then after 2 were out, we strung 4 consecutive hits together from Branan, Alex, Dawson, and Jonah. Will, Branan, Alex, and Jonah had RBI's. After 4, Bama 17, Tech 6. Technically the 5th inning wasn't needed, since we could not lose the game, but we can all benefit from practice.
In the 5th, Tech scored 4 runs on a few hits. Dawson made a nice play at SS. Brandon made a nice stop at 3rd. Everyone played a great game. Final Score Bama 17, Tech 10.
The following players were 3 for 3 today--Branan, Alex, Dawson, and Jonah. Alex had 3 RBI's and Jonah had a double and 2 triples and 6 huge RBI's. Jalen, Griffin, David, Brandon, Mitch, and Will were all 2 for 2 today. Jalen had 2 RBI's. Calvin was 1 for 2 with a big hit in the 2nd inning. Great job EVERYONE!
I definitely believe you play like you practice and we proved that today. We had a good practice Wednesday and it shoed today. Great job Bama, get ready for Arkansas Sunday!
