| Game Notes: The Championship game of the Firebird Fathers Day Tournament came down to 2 Teams that know each other well. The U12 Firebirds (Black) V.S. The Milwaukee Angels. These 2 teams have played each other many times this year and every game has been a well played close battle by both teams. But the Angels have come out on the winning side in each of the games. The Firebirds were determined to change this on Sunday and came out with a run in the 1st inning with a single by Storm Muehl and a hard hit ball by Alex Lawrence to the shortstop who bobbled it and Alex beat out the throw and the Firebirds had runners on 1st and second and then Conor Sherman did a great 2 strike job of hitting the ball to the right side to score Storm on a fielders choice to score the 1st run. Samuel Vissers came out pitching tough once again with some OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYS by Brandon Berghoefer in right field by making a catch and Throwing out a runner going from 2nd to third and Brian Hepworth throwing out a runner trying to steal second. The 1-0 score held up until the 4th when the Angels who never stop putting the pressure on created 4 runs on a couple walks and a couple errors by the Firebirds. Then Mitch Ducett came in to stop the Angels the rest of the way. The Firebirds also did not go down without a last inning battle. Brandon Berghoefer drew a 2 out walk by battling a 10 pitch walk and Sean Staral followed with a base hit to give the Firebirds runners on 1st and second with 2 outs. Then a pass ball moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd and Darin Howell came out ripping. Darin came up to bat and the Angels called time-out to set - up their defense. Darin took a great approach to the plate and fouled off the first 2 pitches with very good swings and then took 2 balls to make the count 2-2 and on the next pitch Darin took a great swing but on this day it just was not to be. He just missed and the Angels Held on to win 4-2. I had told Darin and Sean and Brandon when they went to plate in the last inning with 2 outs that all I ask of them is to give me their best effort and swing with confidence and let what happens happen. I told them they each had the chance to win the game but not lose it because those at bats did not put us behind 4-2. We as a team put ourselves in that spot and as a team we would win or lose. I know this is the ultimate in pressure on a player when you are put in this spot but believe me you will have the high of hitting the game winner sometime and also have the low of not getting the hit. But always know you gave all you had in both attempts and your team no matter what always is behind you in both instances. So to close GREAT Weekend Firebirds and I as Head Coach I am Very Proud to have watched you boys give everything you had all weekend in each game and take 2nd Place. Thank you all for that chance and that made a Great Fathers Day gift. I must also give a BIG THANK YOU TO SHARKEY'S BAR and GRILL for the nice ride in the Hummer Limo for our players on Sat.
