Notes:
In Pool Play, Friday night, AC lost 7-1 to East County Pirates. This was AC's first game with wood bats and East County umpires, and adjustments were slow in coming. (Balls travel differently off wooden bats than the customary metal ones.) Austin Wegdahl had AC's only hit, and Cody Erdman (substituting for Scotty Kirkpatrick, who was at a basketball tournament) scored AC's lone run. Catcher Barydon Poole replaced basketballer Sean Atkins, and did a good job behind the plate. On the mound, Taylor Beck surrendered only 1 hit, but walked 5 batters, and hit 2 more. Eli Lovingfoss pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 1 hit 3 walks and 1 hit batter. The game was called after 4 innings due to a 2 hour time limit rule. To conserve pitching (the Pirates had played an earlier game that night), the EC battery mates used up approximately 45 seconds between pitches throughout the 2 hours of play. |
