Game Notes: Ferber, Perlenfein (6) & Furnstahl (7)

Eastview (20-11-1) kept its winning streak going by defeating East Ridge Gold 12-5, with some ugly defense on both sides. Eastview moved to 1-0 in pool play with the win. The Lightning received a great start from Chris Ferber (1 ER) who held them to one hit with 9 punch outs. He battled out of a few jams that he put himself into and then in the 5th when he lost help from his defense. Perlenfein (K) pitched a perfect 6th before giving way to Furnstahl to throw the 7th. Furnstahl pitched a fine inning by only giving up one hit, but the defense continued to struggle, leading to 3 unearned runs in the inning and 4 unearned runs for the game. It was a good time for the Lightning bats to come alive -- and they did! Grimm (RS, RBI) led off the game with a walk and scored on a Buck (3 H, 2 RS) rbi single. Perlenfein (RS, SB), Buck & Frojd (2 RS, 2 RBI, 2B) had three straight hits to drive in two runs. With a runner on base, Ferber (3 H, 3 RBI, 2 RS) drove him in with a bomb to center field, ending in a triple. He scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 6-0. After East Ridge got 2 runs, the offense struck again in the 6th. Smith (2 RS, SB) led off with a walk followed by an RBI single by Ferber. Ferber scored with 2 outs in the inning on another wild pitch to make it 8-2. In the 7th, the Lightning had a leadoff single by Buck and didn't receive another hit in the inning but managed to push four runs across. The Raptors' pitching staff couldn't find the zone and it helped the Lightning push the lead to 12-2. Unfortunately those 3 unearned runs made the finish 12-5. The Lightning come back at 330pm to face Belle Plaine, who lost to 3rd seeded Minneapolis. Matt Smith (3-2, 2.57) will take the mound in search of his fourth win on the season.

Ferber (W, 4-0)
