Game Notes: Perlenfein

Eastview (21-12-1) won its final game of pool play in the MBT State Tournament by defeating division rival Minneapois 5-4. The Lightning jumped out to an early lead by getting two hits before Frojd hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run. In the second, Matt Smith reached on an error and stole two bags. After a walk, Jack Foy got Smith in on a suicide squeeze. Minneapolis got one back but in the 4th, Eastview extended its lead on Joe Furnstahl's speed alone. After a bunt single, he stole second and third and scored as the throw went into left field. Minneapolis took the lead right back with four hits leading to three runs. With the score 4-3 after 4 innings, the Lightning wasted no time. Scott Perlenfein (2 RS, SB) reached base on an error and then Chris Ferber (BB, RS) hit a blast to center for the team's first home run of the season. It came at a good time as nobody else scored in the game and Eastview held on. Minneapolis had plenty of chances as they left 8 runners in scoring position on the game. Scott Perlenfein went the distance and got his team-leading 6th win of the season. He scattered ten hits and only walked two. With the win, Eastview needed a Belle Plaine loss or tie to advance and win the pool. Instead, Belle Plaine defeated East Ridge and eliminated the Lightning. Eastview heads into playoffs on Tuesday winning 7 of their last 9. They'll need to continue that streak against a Waconia team who was ranked #2 in both of the state tournaments. It is expected that Chris Ferber (4-0, 2.92) will make his last stsrt of the season, due to a family vacation. He has won every time he started a game and will need to shut down a tough Waconia squad. Game time is set for 730pm at Lions Park in Waconia. The winner will travel to Rochester in a quarterfinal match up against the Region 4 champions.

Perlenfein (W, 6-3)
