Notes:
Blue Jays win the CRVL South Division seeding game by a score of 7-3 over the Brownton Bruins. With the win, the Jays picks up draftee Cody Hallahan from Green Isle and head into the Region 7C tournament with confidence on their side. Plato got off to a slow start giving up three quick runs in the first two innings. However, Whitey settled down after that and threw seven strong innings while the Jays' hitters continued to chip away to eventually take the lead and head home with the 7-3 victory. 1st Inning - A lead-off single followed by an error gave the Bruins runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out to start the game. A single followed, which plated one and gave Brownton runners on first and third, still with nobody out. A double steal attempt followed with Eric taking the throw at second and firing home to get the runner at the plate. That left a runner on second with one out, but that is all the damage the Bruins would do in their half of the first. Bruins lead 1-0. 2nd Inning - Whitey walks the first two batters and the 9 hitter follows up with a double to score one and leave runners on 2nd and third with nobody out. After a big stike out, a second run scores on a fielder's choice. A popout ends the inning and the Bruins lead 3-0 after 2 innings of play. That was the last run the Bruins would score in this contest as Whitey settled down and pitched strong into the 8th before handing the ball over to Ode for the 2 inning save. 4th Inning - With 2 outs, Engelmann gets things started with a single. A Bruins error put runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs and Slater delivered the RBI single to score Engelmann. Plato trails 3-1. 5th Inning - Nixy gets things started with a lead-off single. Schwirtz is hit by a pitch putting runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Johnson ground into the fielder's choice to short and beats the relay to first on the attempted double play giving the Jays runners on the corners with one out. A fielder's choice by Maynard scores Nix before the inning ends. Jays trail 3-2. 6th Inning - Engelmann leads the inning off with a single up the middle and Lang walks to give the Jays a scoring threat with nobody out. Slater flies out to right and Boomer is robbed of a hit by a great diving play at first to leave runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Nix and Schwirtz then walked back-to-back, with Engelmann scoring on the walk to Schwirtz for the tying run. Tie game 3-3. 7th Inning - With one out, Ode singled to get things started again for Plato. Eric grounded back to the pitcher, who threw the ball into center field attempting to start the potential double play and the Blue Jays were threatening again. Lang proceeded to hit a huge RBI single to drive in Ode from second, which turned out to be the winning run. Plato leads 4-3. 9th Inning - Plato gets 3 additional insurance runs with the help of 5 walks and a single, all with 2 outs. After the first two batters were retired, Lang and Slater walked. Boomer followed with a single down the left field line to drive in Lang. With two men on and two outs, Nix, Schwirtz, and Johnson collected back-to-back-to-back walks to plate 2 more before the inning was over. Blue Jays lead 7-3. Offensively for Plato, Ode and E collected two hits each. Six other Jays also collected a hit. The 12 Plato batters reached via a walk or HBP, which proved to be a big advantage in this one as well.
