Eastview (8-5) spanked Lake Elmo in a rematch of Saturday morning's pool play. With the win, the Lightning won the River Falls Tournament Championship. They have now won 5 of 6 and they received another quality start on the mound. Furnstahl showed a gutsy performance by going the distance against Lake Elmo for the 2nd time in consecutive days. After falling behind 3-0, the Lightning also put 3 up on the board with 3 hits, including a clutch 2-out 2-rbi knock by Ronhovde. After Lake Elmo put another run on the board in the 2nd, Eastview batted around and put 6 runs up to take the lead (3 of the 6 runs with 2 outs). After taking the lead, the Lightning didn't look back as they shut the door with some more solid defense and timely hitting. On the weekend (5 games) Eastview only allowed 18 runs, committed only 9 errors, and walked only 16 hitters. With solid pitching and defense like that, Eastview kept every game close and found a way to pull through in all but one of the games. After taking some much needed rest, the Lightning return to action against district rival Apple Valley on Thursday. With another tournament beginning the following night, it is expected that Eastview will employ a 'pitching-by-committee' approach with no pitcher going more than 2 innings.
