Game Notes: The Bantam AA Red Sox continued their winning ways this Saturday afternoon at Preston Bruce Field with a 13 – 6 thumping of the Peninsula Hawks. The game was sweet revenge for a 15-4 mercy shortened loss the last time these two teams met. Starting pitcher Cody Elzinga was solid allowing only one hit and one earned run despite fighting the flu, which caused him to retire after pitching 3 innings. The real story of the game was told at the plate and on the bases as the Sox pounded out 11 hits, stole 16 bases and still left 9 runners in scoring position. Player of the game was Jordan Bell who not only went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and a double, but also caught the entire game on what was surely the hottest day of the year. Four other Duncan players had two hits and multiple stolen bases: Patrick Kay’s timely singles led to 4 RBI’s and he stole 4 bases, Connor Steacy doubled, singled and stole 2 bases, Arjun Rai singled twice and stole 3 bases, Dean Robin added 3 stolen bases to his two singles. Dan Draper was clutch at the plate and drove in 3 runs in only two at bats. Spence O’Flaherty played error free ball at first base and was one for two at the plate. One area the Red Sox have to work on is their defensive play, especially when playing with a lead. The Sox gave up four unearned runs in the last four innings making things more difficult than need be for reliever Patrick Kay, who picked up the win with six strikeouts. The Red Sox’s record is now 9 wins, 5 losses and a tie, with three games left in the regular season.
