Johansen & Bangh (8) APPLE VALLEY -- Eastview (13-6) opened up pool play with a tough loss to district rival Apple Valley 5-1. After being defeated twice earlier in the season, it was well-known that the Eagles were going to bring it. Eastview got on the board first with Bangh leading off with a single and stealing 2nd. He later scored on a base hit and an error. That was the lone Lightning run as they stranded 11 runners on base on the day. Dickson went the first 4 and kept the game close but the bats could not come through when it counted. In game 2, it was a back-and-forth affair with Osseo. After every Osseo run, the Lightning scored one of their own. In the second, Dickson single, went to second on a wild pitch, stole 3rd, and scored on another wild pitch. In the third, McLean (2 H, RS) led off with a single and later scored on a Selchow (3 H, RS) RBI single. In the sixth, Selchow had a one out single and stole second base. He scored on a 2-out double by Dickson (RS, 2 H). Dickson was left on 3rd with 2 outs. In the 7th, down by a run, Bangh had a pinch hit 1-out single. He moved to second on a hit batter and scored on an RBI single by Leighton. With runners on second and third and 1-out, the Lightning could not get the winning run across. In the 8th, Selchow led off with a single, moved to second on a throwing error, and to third on a SAC bunt. He was stranded there as the next two hitters could not score him and the game ended in a 4-4 tie, due to time. With the loss and tie for the day, Eastview needs to win against Wayzata in the morning and receive help if they want to advance to the semifinals. Alex Bangh (3-0, 2.51) makes his 4th start on the season after coming in relief of Johansen's masterful efforts on the mound tonight. Johansen went 7, yielding 4 runs (3 earned) and getting 15 groundouts. |
