Higgins & Woods (6)
The Lightning finished their season with a first round playoff loss to Prior Lake 8-5. Eastview scored a run in each of their first five innings and the two teams were tied 5-5 after five. Prior Lake got a leadoff triple in the 6th but Eastview got a weak grounder and a strikeout to keep the runner stranded on third with two outs. Then on a 0-2 pitch Prior Lake got another triple to take the lead. That followed by a hit by pitch, stolen base, and single to take a 3-run lead. The Lightning could not put any more runs across and lost a heartbreaker by three. Their defense committed six errors, five on the infield. The outfield had a great day though, tracking down many well hit flyballs. Higgins had a heck of a day on the mound. He pitched five strong innings and only gave up four hits. He was hurt by all the defensive lapses on the infield, giving up only two earned runs. The offense scattered 8 hits and were led by Ritacco (3b, 2 r), Velin (1b, sb, r), & Christian (rbi single)—all reached base twice. The Lightning started their season 10-6 and ended it 4-13 for a record of 14-19. They committed 136 errors on defense, which comes out to a little over 4 errors per game. Almost half of their runs given up were unearned and had almost as many walks given up as strikeouts. Their offense however hit .276/.426/.325 as a team. They stole 106 bases and had 35 extra base hits. They had 75 walks than strikeouts and averaged a little fewer than 7 runs per game.
