FARMINGTON -- Eastview (20-13-2) defeated district rivals Eagan 11-5 in the final game of pool play. The night before the game, the Apple Valley coach overheard multiple Eagan parents talking at the tournament headquarters about how it should be an easy win against Eastview and they were talking about who they play when they win the pool. While the coach was in the pre-game ground rules meeting, all 12 Lightning players were on the field with their bats, helmets and batting gloves. When it came time for the coin toss, coach told Eagan they can be home because Eastview wanted the sticks first. The players responded by getting 2 runs in the top half of the inning. After a leadoff walk by Terlizzi (2 RS) and an error, McDevitt knocked in one on a single. Following a fielder's choice and a walk, Ibeneme (RS, 2 RBI, SB) hit a SAC fly for the other run. In the 3rd, Eastview had 5 consecutive singles and had help from another Wildcat error to push 4 more across. After Eagan got within 2, the Lightning put up 5 more of their own to push the lead to 7. Terlizzi led off with a triple, Selchow followed with an infield single and McDevit had an RBI single. Dickson hit a SAC fly and then Bangh knocked one in with a triple. Two batters later, Wilson singled in a run. With 2 outs, Wilson and Johansen successfully executed a double steal to push the 5th run across. Eagan only scored one more run and couldn't ever put together much in the final 4 frames. Bangh (3 K) started and had two strong innings but struggled to find an out in the 3rd. Selchow (1 ER, 1 K) came in to shut the door when it was close and went 4 2/3 to grab the win. Unfortunately, due to the runs allowed tiebreaker, Eastview finished 3rd in the pool after the 3-way tie and will not advance to bracket play. The Lightning have a few days off before facing Eagan again -- this time in the first round of league playoffs. Keegan Dickson (3-3, 2.94) is expected to be on the bump. Game time is set for 6pm at Rahn #1.
