| Game Notes: Pius struggled for the first 5 innings with the scrappy hosts, but a 9 run 6th brought an end to the contest with Hamilton (IN) Southeastern, and propelled the Popes into the quarterfinals of the 32 team Hoosier Classic, in Indianapolis, IN. A.J. Seagraves went the first 4 and 1/3 scattering 7 hits and allowing 3 walks before leaving with bases loaded in the 5th and the Popes clinging to a 4-2 lead. Kevin Robinson slammed the door in the 5th, allowing only a sac fly and nothing in the 6th to notch the save, before the Popes big uprising in the home half. The 11 hit attack was led by Joe Schreck with 3 singles and 3 runs batted in. Nick Majeske and Greg Grocholski had 2 hits each, sophomore Kevin Doerr had a 2 run single, and Robinson, despite going hitless from the lead-off spot, coaxed a walk and was plunked twice, which accounted for 4 stolen bases and 3 runs scored. | |||||||||
