APPLE VALLEY -- Eastview (18-11-2) completed its season sweep of Shakopee in league play by shuting them out 5-0. The story of the game was easily the performance of Adam Stockwell on the mound. He threw the team's first shutout of the season, allowing only 5 hits, walking 0, and striking out 3. Only 5 Saber hitters reached 2-ball counts and none reached a 3-ball count. He was in the zone and kept attacking the zone. The defense made two early errors but settled down and made plays for him after that. They gave him an early lead in the 1st with 2-out and 0 on. McDevitt doubled and scored on a Selchow double. In the 3rd, Dickson walked (3 RS, 2B, 2 BB) moved to second on a SAC bunt by Bangh, and scored on another 2-out knock by Selchow. In the 5th, Dickson led off again, this time with a double. He moved to 3rd on a single by Bangh and McDevitt walked to load the bases. Selchow drove in Dickson with a SAC fly to deep center. In the 6th, Eastview scored two more with 2-out and 0 on. Leighton reached on an error, Dickson walked, Bangh reached on an error and McDevitt reached on an error. This was just insurance because all Stockwell needed was one run for the win. Eastview now is tied with Burnsville & Rosemount in league play, hot on the heels of Mankato for second place. The last few weeks loom large as the Lightning need to defeat Mankato next week and receive a lot of help to finish in 2nd place. Lakeville North has completed league play and finished in 1st place at 13-3. In next week's matchup with the Royals, Eastview will send Keegan Dickson (3-2, 2.10) to the mound for his 5th start on the season. Mankato defeated Eastview 5-1 in their only other meeting on the season. The Mankato coach voiced his disappointment after being seeded below the Lightning for the upcoming MBT State Tournament. Game time is set for 5pm at Franklin Rogers in Mankato.
