Notes:
Coach Derrion Hardie's game comments: "Cody London had another steller starting pitching performance with 11 K's in 6 innings of work after last week's no decision when he had 15 K's. Deric Denning took the mound for the 7th inning with a 4-2 lead and did a nice job of pitching to contact to pick up the save. Offensively, we did an outstanding job playing small ball with our bunting game, executing 2 squeeze plays and bunting twice for base hits. In addition, we executed a 1st and 3rd offensive play with 2 outs and an 0-2 count to score a run. The top of our order (Brian Vermeulen, Cody London, Cam Deinert and Justin Davis) was the catalyst of our offense going 6 for 8 at the plate. On the basepaths, we had 3 mental errors that cost us at least 1 run and defensively we had 3 routine ground ball errors that allowed Parkston to score 1 run on one of those errors. I'm not too concerned about the baserunning errors as we are typically a good baserunning team, but we must do a better job of making the routine defensive plays rather than giving teams 4 to 5 outs in an inning. Those 3 defensive errors cost London 12 extra pitches that he had to pitch, which is nearly an inning's worth of work." Current varsity record is 2-1 JV lost 3-0 (JV record 1-2) Next game is April 7 versus Corsica/Stickney/Armour in Mt. Vernon starting at 2:00 pm with the JV game, followed by the varsity game. |
