The Lightning lost in the Championship Game to Eden Prairie 4-2. They were held scoreless until the last inning, when they reached five consecutive times on 3 HBPs, a walk, and an error. With 2 out, they had the bases loaded and the tying run on 2nd. On the afternoon, they were only held with two hits and left 10 men on base, 6 in scoring position. Starter John Melzarek (4 k, 0 er) battled for 4 innings and kept Eastview close but they could not find that clutch hit to get them on the board. The defense also made four errors and had three passed balls. This led to all four runs being unearned on the day. Of the 15 runs allowed, only 3 have been earned – a problem that needs to be fixed. The Lightning finished the weekend 2-1 with a second place finish and two State Tournament births. They take the night off tomorrow and travel to Northfield as both teams look for their first league win of the season. Garrett Runing will make his season debut on the bump.
