Melzarek, Woods (5), Runing (5) & Dickson (5) Eastview (19-14-1) defeated Shoreview for the second time in a week. Last week was a 7-1 pitchers dual most of the game and this one was an offensive feast. The Lightning fell behind early but tied it up in the second when Jonas (3 SB, 2 R) singled with 1 out, stole 2 bases & came home when Runing (R) reached on an error. Eastview took the lead in the next inning with 4 unearned runs. They capitalized on 2 Shoreview errors and strung together 3 two-out hits. With the score 6-3 after 4 innings, Eastview made the score 12-3 with a 6-run 5th led by Devine's (5 RBI) triple. The key play in that inning was Vossen laying down a 2-strike sacrifice bunt to move the leadoff hitter up a bag. After pulling away, Eastview barely held on to defeat Shoreview, who scored 6 unanswered with the tying run stranded at the plate. With the win and Shoreview's 3-2 loss earlier, Eastview is guaranteed bracket play, two games Sunday & a top four finish. Eastview plays Burnsville White at 230pm.
