The Indians took on the Abbotsford Angels at Bird Pk Friday in what was to be the final league game of the season with 4th place {and a better draw in the Provincials} at stake. With Jordan tossing well early and providing the offence as well, we jumped out to a 5-1 lead after 4 and looked well on our way to a victory. However Jacob Doyle was unable to hold the lead in relief of Jordan and the Angels potted 3 runs in the 6th inning and another 4 in the 7th to go up 8-5 heading to the bottom of 7. The Indians mounted a rally when Jordan hit his 2nd HR and Matt drove in Aaron with a triple to cut the lead to 8-7. We had a chance to squeeze in the tying run but were unable to do so and lost a tough 8-7 battle to close out the season at 26-13 and in 5th place.

The Indians returned home from a successful Okanagan trip to take on the high flying Cloverdale Spurs. Jacob Doyle got the start but had to leave with illness after 2 innings giving way to Alan for an inning and then Coleton. Spurs Markus Gregson hit his first of 2 HR's off Doyle in the 1st inning to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead. Cloverdale added a run in the 4th and 2 in the 5th off Coleton and then picked up 2 more off Max in the top of 7 to take a 10-0 lead. The Indians managed to put up 3 in the bottom of the 7th when Coleton and Matt picked up RBI singles.  The final score was 10-3 for Cloverdale setting up game no 39 of the season vs. the Abbotsford Angels--a game that will decide 4th place and provide a more favourable draw in the Provincial schedule due to be released at some point soon so teams can make their travel plans.

The Indians arrived in Kelowna for the single game Sunday, hoping for a weekend sweep and once again were fortunate to avoid the top pitchers the A's threw at us at Bird field earlier this month. We jumped out early with a run in the 1st and then broke the game open with a 6 spot in the 3rd, highlighted by a 2B from Max and singles from Kyle, Beau, Aaron, Matt, and Riley to put us up 7-0 after 3 innings. We would get 3 more runs in the 5th and were cruising behind a good performance from SP Alan. The hometown A's however were able to pick up a single run in the bottom of the 5th to keep the game alive and then 3 more in the 6th off Riley, who had relieved Alan. Riley had to leave with an injury, so Max came in but the A's bats stayed hot.  They picked up 2 more in the bottom of the 7th, to close the gap to 10-6 with the bases juiced before Jacob Doyle came to get the final out in a 10-6 victory which gave the Indians the much needed sweep. Next up is the show-down vs the Abbotsford A's to decide 4th place in the final standings, although with the newly revised provincial format the result likely means very little at the end of the day. It appears if we lose Friday we will play at 10am in game 1 but if we win we will play at 1pm.

Posted Jul 26/13 - July 20th Double Header in Kamloops

The Indians took their show on the road to the Okanagan with the hopes of turning their fortunes around after a tough stretch recently. First up on Saturday they took on an undermanned Kamloops Riverdogs team who were shorthanded for the weekend minus ace Jeff Coulter and others. With Jordan on the hill for the Indians, we hoped to get off to a good start but it wasn't to be as Zac Austin gave the home team a 3-0 lead with a 3 run bomb in the bottom of the 1st. Tri-City got 2 back in the 2nd on consecutive singles from Aaron, Coleton, and Beau. Then in the 3rd, the Indians picked up 3 runs highlighted by a 2 run double from Aaron. Indians led 5-3 before Kamloops picked up a run in the bottom of the 4th to close the gap to 5-4. However the home team then picked up a 3 spot in the bottom of 5 to go up 7-5 before Jordan hit a 3 run bomb of his own to put the Indians up 8-7 after 6. Tri-City added a couple of insurance runs in the top of 7 when Coleton and Beau led the inning off with BB's and Riley laid down a perfect sac bunt before Jordan and Kyle picked up the RBI's. Kyle then came in to relieve Jordan and picked up the save with a 1-2-3 7th inning.

The Indians travelled to Richmond to take on the red hot Chuckers and were no match on this night; falling 10-3. The game started poorly for the Indians as Max Kondratkowski was touched for 4 unearned runs in the bottom of the 1st in an inning we should have escaped without giving up any runs. Richmond picked up another run in the bottom of 2 but the Indians got that one back when Jordan doubled in Max in the 3rd inning. Then in the 4th, Kyle led off with a single and was driven in by a 2 out single from Riley to close the gap to 5-2. Richmond struck right back though with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to stretch their lead to 7-2. Tri-City got their final run in the top of 6 when Alan walked and then was driven in by a single from Matt. Max, Jacob Simms, Alan, and Riley all got some work in on the mound on this night as we try to get pitchers ready for the Provincials.

The Burnaby Braves invaded Bird field the next night with the Indians looking to avenge an earlier loss at home to these same Braves. Burnaby entered this game with a 10-26 record which is difficult to understand given the talent they do have, especially on the mound. Braves starter Brodwell was solid early, throwing hard and keeping the Tri-City bats at bay. The visitors got on SP Jacob Doyle with 3 quick runs including a mammoth HR by Joey. Doyle settled down after that 1st inning and pitched well through the 6th holding the Braves to the 3 early runs. The Indians got 1 back in the bottom of the 1st when Jordan reached base on a dropped 3rd strike and came around to score on a single by Kyle. Tri-City got their 2nd run when Jordan doubled with 2 out in the 3rd and Kyle once again singled him in to cut the Burnaby lead to 3-2. Braves SP Brodwell and another team-mate had to leave the game after 4 innings as they both live in Gibsons and had to catch the last ferry home. Indians offered to pay for a hotel night as the game was delayed an hour due to an umpiring snafu on behalf of the home team. However the Braves 2 relievers continued their dominance over the Indians hitters striking out 16 Indian hitters on the night. Kyle came in to relieve Jacob in the 7th and promptly walked the 2 top bottom hitters in the Braves order. This would prove costly as the Braves managed to pick up an insurance run in the inning as a result and led 4-2 going to the bottom of 7. Indians refused to die as Beau led off with a 2B and then scored on a single from Matt Clay to close the gap to 4-3. After Max was hit by a pitch, the Braves gave Jordan an intentional walk to load the bases and the Indians could not come up with the big 2 out hit with the bases juiced. Final score was 4-3 Braves. A very tough loss for the home team, which left everyone scratching their heads as to why Burnaby's record is what it is.

The LA Dodgers invaded Bird field looking to take the rubber match of the 3 game season series and boost their chances of avoiding the WC tournament to qualify for the provincials. The game started well for the Indians as they jumped out with a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of 1; when both Jordan and Kyle came in to score on a single from Matt Clay. Indians also picked up single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to stretch their lead to 4-0 but in the process left 4 men on base which would come back to haunt us later in the game. The visiting Dodgers began to chip away at SP Jordan with a run in the 4th and then 3 in the 5th to tie the game at 4-4. Kyle took over on the mound for the 6th and had a solid inning but the Dodgers scratched a run in the 7th when Yi-Fan Pan hit a 2 out 2B to score Burns from 2nd with the go ahead run. Indians threatened in the bottom of the inning, when Jake walked with one out, but a couple of infield ground outs secured the 5-4 win for Aldergrove. This was a game that the Indians gave away as they had many opportunities to extend their early lead but failed to do so. Full credit to the Dodgers for battling back for a hard fought win.

On Tuesday, the Indians travelled to Nanaimo Pk to take on the 1st place Van Minor Mounties. Indians started Jacob Doyle on this day and he looked sharp early, mowing the Mounties hitters down the first 2 innings. Tri-City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd when Jordan hit a 1-out triple and scored on an infield ground-out by Kyle. Doyle however then struggled with his control and fell behind several Mounties hitters and gave up 3 runs in the bottom of 3. Mounties SP Ensing was on this day and the game remained 3-1 till the bottom of 5 when the Mounties tallied a run off Jordan Dray to go up 4-1. They then stretched their lead with a 3 spot in the bottom of 6 to complete the final score as 7-1 and solidify their hold on first place.

On July 7th the Indians hosted the Okanagan A's at beautiful Bird field. It was Tri-City's first look at the improved A's team who would throw some quality pitching at us on this day. Indians jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of 1, when Jordan doubled, Kyle singled and both guys came around to score. The visiting A's got 1 back in the top of 3 when SP Alan Selman was touched up for 3 hits but the Indians struck back quickly with a 4 spot in the bottom half of the 3rd. Jacob Simms led off with a solid single and was followed by back to back hits from Jordan, Kyle, and Matt Clay. Aaron closed the scoring with an RBI single to put us up 6-1 after 3. The A's scratched another run in the 4th but the locals put the game away with a 9 spot in the bottom of the 4th featuring HR's from Alan and Clay as the Indians cruised to a 15-2 romp to open the DH.

The Indians were at home for a make-up game with the tough Abbotsford Angels on Friday night. The Angels were set to avenge an earlier lopsided loss to the Indians on a rainy night in Abbotsford and they got off to a good start in the top of the 1st when their lead-off hitter singled and came around to score on a ground-out to the right side. This was not going to be an easy night vs a scrappy Abbotsford team. Ace Jordan Dray settled in after that inning and was hitting his spots with both pitches keeping the Angel hitters off balance.

The Indians travelled to Cloverdale on June 19th for their 2nd game of the year vs the high flying Spurs; coached by Cubs fan Eddy Dagg. This was a tough game from the start, as the Cloverdale bats came out swinging against Tri-City starter Jordan Dray who had trouble hitting his spots on this day. The Spurs picked up 5 runs in the 3rd inning to blow the game open in what ended as an 8-3 Cloverdale win. The Indians did not play well on defense either, missing several cut-off men and failing to cover bases on plays in the infield. These areas have been the main focus of our last 3 practices. On the bright side both Alan and Jordan homered in the loss. Next up are the Burnaby Braves who invade Bird field on Wednesday.

Posted Jun 22/13 - June 16th Make up of Nanaimo game played at Nanaimo Pk in Vancouver

With a week-long break between games the Indians were able to bring Jacob Doyle to the mound which always gives the team a chance to win no matter who the opponent is. It had already been a tough weekend for Nanaimo as they had lost a DH to 2nd place Cloverdale the previous day and then were whipped on a mercy shortened game by the Vancouver Mounties just prior to facing the Indians. Tri City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of 2 when Alan walked and Jacob Doyle singled. Aaron then drove in Alan with an RBI double and Riley singled to plate Doyle. Jacob Simms drove in Riley on a 6-3 ground out and the Indians led 3-0 after 2. The Pirates clawed their way back into it when Aaron lost a fly ball in LF and then that was followed with another infield error to allow the visitors to narrow the gap to 3-2. The Indians got an unearned run of their own in the bottom of 4 to move ahead 4-2 after 4. Doyle was settling in nicely and the locals added another run in the 5th when Coleton singled and was doubled in by Kyle and Tri-City led 5-2 after 5. Doyle finished his pitch count after 5 1/3 and gave way to Jordan who came in throwing hard and set down all 3 Pirates hitters he faced before giving way to Alan who closed the deal. The Indians tacked on 3 insurance runs in the bottom of 6 highlighted an RBI single from Riley and a perfect squeeze bunt executed by Coleton. Final score Tri City-8 Nanaimo-2

Game 1 - The Indians started the first of 2 on the day vs Vic Red with Alan getting the start on the bump. He was solid through 4 innings and left with giving up only 2 runs in his 63 pitch outing. Matt continued his power display with a 2 run blast to put us up 2-1 but Victoria tied it in the bottom of 4. Indians went up 3-2 in the top of 5 when Riley scored after Coleton reached on an error with 2 out. Jacob Doyle came in to relieve but didn't have his best stuff on this day. We gave him a cushion with 5 runs in the top of the 6th highlighted by a single from Aaron followed by a 2B from Riley. Victoria got one back in the bottom of 6 to close the Indians lead to 8-3 and then we scored 1 in the top of the 7th when Aaron singled in Doyle to put us up 9-3. However Doyle had a rough 7th and needed relief help from Kyle who struck out the final 2 Victoria hitters with the tying run on 2nd and the Indians escaped with a wild 9-7 win.

The Indians travelled to Victoria for a 3 game weekend against the 2 always tough Victoria teams.  Indians started strong vs Vic Black on this day scoring 4 times in the first inning. Kyle and Coleton led off with singles and then Jordan tripled scoring both runners. Alan then followed with a 1B and then Matt doubled him home. Coleton got the start and breezed through the 1st but Vic Black got 2 back in the bottom of the 2nd. Indians bats went quickly back to work in the 3rd though, when Jordan honeyed to lead off the top of 3; followed quickly by a 1B from Alan and Matt hit his first bomb of the year to put us up 7-2. Tri City added a single run in the top of 4, when Coleton doubled in Kyle who had singled. In the top of 5, red hot Matt Clay doubled and then Aaron singled him home. The visitors then broke the game open with a 5 spot in the top of 6 highlighted by a HR from Alan. Coleton pitched 5 strong innings and Kyle closed out the 6 inning 15-3 win.

The Indians hosted the L.A. Dodgers at Bird Park looking to avenge a 6-1 pasting they took on the road last week. The game did not start well for Tri-City as the Dodgers plated an unearned run in the top of the 1st on a throwing error. However the Indians bounced back with 4 runs in the bottom of 3 to give SP Alan Selman a 4-1 lead. Aaron Sinclaire led off and was hit by a pitch. Then with a 1-1 count, Jacob Simms had a great at bat fouling off several pitches before lining a single to left scoring Sinclaire to tie the game. Kyle Stubbins then singled and was followed by RBI singles from Colton Rieta (1) and Jordan Dray (2). L.A. got one back when Alan hit the lead-off batter and then reliever Jacob Doyle did the same. After 4 the Indians led 4-2. In the top of 5, the visitors tied the game off Doyle following a lead-off walk and 2 singles. Jordan Dray came in to relieve Doyle and closed out the inning and looked sharp thereafter. Then in the bottom of 5, with 2 outs, Jordan hit a hard shot that the Dodger shortstop couldn't handle. Then 3 pitches later with Jordan off and running, Alan came up with another clutch single scoring Jordan all the way from 1st. That gave the Indians a 4-3 lead after 5 and Jordan set down the Dodger hitters in order in the 5th and 6th with 5 K's to seal the hard fought 5-4 victory over a very tough Dodgers team. Next up the Indians travel to Victoria for a 3 game weekend just 1/2 game out of top spot.

In the rubber match of the 3 game series, the Indians sent co-ace Jacob Doyle to the bump.  Despite a "postage-stamp" strike zone, Jacob was flawless in leading the locals to a 10-0 {5 inning mercy} over the White Rock Tritons to take 2 of 3 from their opponents over the weekend series. Indians tallied a solo run in the bottom of the 1st when Kyle Stubbins, who had walked scored, on an RBI single from Alan Selman-Branston. Tritons starter Sam Shoemaker struggled with the tight strike zone in the bottom of 2, walking both opposing pitcher Doyle and then Lucas Ciachurski. With 2 outs, Kyle Stubbins lined one up the middle that the Tritons 2B was unable to handle, allowing both Doyle and Lucas to score; boosting the Indians lead to 3-0 after 2. In the 3rd inning both Dray and Selman-Branston scored to boost the Tri-City lead to 5-0 and Doyle continued to shut down the White Rock hitters. In the bottom of 4, Stubbins was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a 2 run jack off the bat of the new #3 hitter; Jordan Dray. Finally in the bottom of the 5th the Indians put the game away with another 3 runs, with the key hits being a 2B from Riley Engleson and a 2 run RBI single from Jordan. This gave the Indians the 10 run victory featuring a 2 hitter from winning pitcher Jacob Doyle in the 5 inning mercy game victory. This raised the Indians record to 16-5 good enough for 2nd place in the very competitive BC Minor Bantam AAA league. Next up for the Indians is the always tough Aldergrove Dodgers at home on Thursday next week.

On the day the calendar flipped to June, the Indians travelled to South Surrey to take on the much-improved White Rock Tritons in a DH.  The Tritons were missing their ace pitcher Alan Hogg, but on this day their starter Nilan Gunness pitched like an ace in his own right shutting the Indians down all day as the Tritons prevailed 10-4 in game 1 of the DH.  Indians SP Max Kondratowski struggled with his control early and, coupled with some sloppy infield play, the Indians got behind the eight ball and they could never recover. Tritons scored single runs in the 1st three innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead after 3. The Indians finally got on the board with a single run in the top of 5 when Coleton Rieta doubled with 2 out and scored on an error to short off the bat of Jordan Dray who reached first on the play. The momentum was short lived though as the Tritons potted 5 runs in the bottom of 5 off Max and reliever Jacob Simms. Indians got 1 back in the 6th when Alan led off with a 1B and was driven home by an RBI single by Matt Clay. Tritons scored 2 more in the bottom of 6 before the Indians tacked on 2 token runs in the top of 7 to make the score a little more respectable but White Rock prevailed 10-4.

On a wet and cold night, the Indians travelled to Townline Park in Abbotsford, for their first look at the always strong Abbotsford Angels. The field conditions were slick after heavy on and off rain and this was a definite factor in this game much to the benefit of the visiting Indians. Tri-City got off to a good start with 2 unearned runs in the top of the first, following a miscue with 2 outs by the Abby starter who appeared to slip on a routine comebacker that would have ended the inning. The ball sailed wide at first and both Jordan and Jacob Doyle scored on the play. In the 2nd inning with 2 out, Max Kondratowski was hit by a pitch and then Jacob Simms was walked. Jordan then doubled in Max and Kyle reached on a hard ball hit to second that handcuffed the Abby defender to score Simms. In the 3rd inning, Doyle reached on an error and Alan was hit by a pitch. Coleton then reached on an error on a sac bunt when the pitcher slipped on the wet grass trying to field it.  Jacob Simms then pulled off the squeeze bunt, scoring Alan from 3B.  In the 4th inning, Kyle led off with a 1B and came around to score on a 2-out 1B from Alan. That gave the Indians an 8-0 lead, which was more than enough with Jacob Doyle firing peas at the Abby hitters. The Indians put up a 5 spot in the 5th mainly on BB's from Abby's lesser pitchers. Doyle then closed out the easy 13-0 win on a dreary night. This was not Abby's team and we know they will be much better the next time we face them.

On a day that the Indians badly needed a big pitching performance, Jordan Dray delivered; going 6 2/3 scoreless innings to win a pitching duel with Kamloops starter Coulter who was equally sharp for the Riverdogs on this day. Jordan helped himself out with a leadoff 2B in the bottom of 1 and scored on a solid single from Kyle. The 1-0 lead helped through till the bottom of 5 when Jordan was HBP leading off the inning and Alan Selman-Branston came up with a clutch 2 out 2B to plate Jordan and give the Indians a much needed insurance run. Dray continued to stymie the Kamloops bats through 2 outs in the 7th when Jacob Doyle came in to get the final out on a come backer to secure a hard fought and much needed 2-0 win over the Kamloops Riverdogs.

After a 9 day lay- off, the Indians travelled to Aldergrove for their first look at the L.A. Dodgers. The Indians showed some serious signs of rust and if the Burnaby game was a poor effort by the Indians this game topped that in every way. Indians came up with only 1 hit the entire night and even though the Dodger pitcher pitched well, there was no excuse for such anemic offense. Alan led off the 5th with a double and was squeezed in by Coleton to temporarily tie the game at 1 but the Dodgers would take the lead for good off losing pitcher Jacob Doyle scoring twice in the bottom of 5 and 3 more times in the 6th to win going away 6-1. The Indians are going to need to generate better at bats and generally be more patient and use the count to their advantage. Right now we are swinging at too many bad pitches in good hitting counts.

May 14th the locals took on cross-town rival Burnaby Braves. The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of 2 when Max's sac fly plated Aaron Sinclaire who had doubled and then Coleton singled in Alan for the Indian's 2nd run. The Braves came up with 3 off SP Coleton Rieta in top of the 3rd coming mainly off some shoddy Indians defense. The Braves scored another unearned up in the 4th to go up 4-2 but the Indians battled back with 2 in the bottom of 5 to tie the game at 4. Alan relieved Coleton and was pitching well as the game remained tied through 7 innings and then 8 even though the Indians had several chances to score off Braves starter Michael Stovman but just couldn't get the big hit. In the 9th Alan started to tire and was relieved by Max but again the Indians got sloppy on defense and the Braves scored 5 times in the top of the 9th and held on to win 9-4 in one of the Indians poorest efforts of the young season.

On May 11th the Indians travelled to Cloverdale to take on the high flying Spurs led by their famous manager Eddie Dagg who pretends to be a Red Sox fan even though deep down he really loves the Cubs. Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of 1 when Jordan homered to lead off the game.  Aaron then singled in Kyle Stubbins to plate the second run. Spurs got 1 back in the bottom of the 1st on a pair of Indians infield errors. The Spurs picked up 3 more in the bottom of 2 to go up 4-2 but the Indians knotted the game with 2 in the top of 3.  Kyle and Aaron led off with singles and then Beau Laslo doubled in Stubbins and Alan Selman-Branston singled in Sinclaire. In the top of 4 the Indians broke loose with 4 runs keyed by a 2 run 1B by Beau and RBI singles from Riley Engleson and Max Kondratowski. The Indians added to their lead in the top of 5 when Jordan Dray hit his 2nd HR and Kyle tripled and scored on an RBI single by Aaron. After 5 innings the Indians led 10-4 but the Spurs refused to go away and fought back with 3 in the bottom of the 6th to close the gap to 10-7. Alan relieved Kyle on the hill and closed out the victory even though the Spurs scored another run in the bottom of 7. Final score: Indians-10 Spurs-8.

The Indians travelled to Vancouver Island on the weekend with the first stop being in Nanaimo on Saturday to face the young and rapidly improving Pirates. The Indians jumped out early when Jordan, Kyle, and Aaron all scored for a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Max drew the start on the hill but struggled in the 1st inning with his location and the Pirates were able to get those 3 runs right back in the bottom of the 1st. Max would go on to settle in and pitch 5 innings for the win. Aaron Sinclaire led off the 3rd inning with his 2nd of 3 hits on the day and was followed by a solid single from Jacob Doyle to set the table for RBI blasts from Alan and Riley to put the Indians up 6-3. Jordan hit a solo HR in the 4th inning and then after the Pirates got a run back in the bottom of the 4th, he drove in Coleton Rieta with an RBI single to make it 8-4. The Indians and top ranked Richmond Chuckers squared off on Wednesday at Bird Field and as expected the game was a tight affair even though both teams did not use their aces on the mound. The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Alan Selman-Branston doubled in Max Kondratowski and then Lucas Ciachurski singled him in.  The Chuckers then struck back with a single run in the 3rd and then exploded for 5 runs in the 4th inning to take a 6-2 lead. The Indians would battle right back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie it up at 6 keyed by a double from Kyle Stubbins and a triple off the bat of Jordan Dray. The visitors then tallied a single run in the top of the 7th to take the lead and even though the Indians threatened in the bottom of the 7th featuring a line shot down the 3rd base line by Matt Clay which was called foul--debatable at best. So in the end even though the Indians showed heart to battle back, their effort came up just short.

The Indians were in a battle with the weather-man this weekend as both games Saturday at home with Nanaimo were rained out. On Sunday the locals took on a much-improved North Island Royals team that was a little beat up by their DH split with Burnaby on the Saturday. The Indians threw their ace Jordan against the tired North Island team who were missing their top pitcher due to injury and took advantage of that to win 10-0. Dray was solid on the mound and Jacob Doyle provided the big offensive blows with a 2 run double and then a 3-run HR. The Royals are a very scrappy and well-coached team that is going to surprise many teams this season.

The Indians travelled to Burnaby on Tuesday night and came away with a hard earned 4-1 victory over a tough Burnaby team. Jacob pitched 5 strong innings before Jordan came in for the last 2 innings to get the save.
