Posted Jul 16/12 - Indians get back to winning ways

The past 2 weeks have been tough on the Indians as they ran into a tough stretch in their schedule, with the majority of their games against the upper echelon teams. After struggling with only 1 win in games vs. top ranked Cloverdale Black, Mounties, and Abby the Indians took to the road this weekend with 5 games. Friday night started with the completion of the earlier protested game from April, which did not turn out well for the Indians as Nanaimo tallied 4 times in the bottom of the 6th inning to prevail 6-2. The next morning the Indians travelled up to Parksville to play a much improved North Island team. The park we played at this day was second to none and I must say featured as good umpiring as we have had all season. The bats continued to struggle early although the Indians did score in every inning but one, but lacked the big hit to put their opponents away.  Nic provided a solid outing going the full distance to pick up the pitching win and put the Indians in good shape going forward. Garinder followed Nic's strong performance on the mound in game 2 and also pitched a complete game as the Indians bats began to show life. Josh, Jordan, Evan, Nic, and Dignan led the way on offence and the Indians played solid defence behind G to win going away. Full kudos, though, to the North Island team who are very well coached and have 6 first year players, which should ensure a much more successful 2013 season. Back to the hotel for a great team dinner and the inevitable early curfew to anger the boys who seem to think they can stay up all night and still be at their best the next am. "Had a later curfew when I was in grade 1" was one comment that was overheard. LOL !!

Posted Jun 21/12 - Indians give up lead and lose to Abby in completion of suspended game
The Indians suffered defeat tonight; both to the Abbotsford Angels and also to what they feel was a totally unjust decision by BC Minor to overturn what was a 14-4 victory into a 7-6 heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Angels. To further add insult to injury, the Indians also absorbed a $100 appeal penalty, when it was clear Abbotsford had made incorrect substitutions. In the completion of the game tonight, the Angels took advantage of a couple of key Indians mistakes in the 7th inning leading to a 3 run HR that gave the Angels a 7-6 win. Full credit to the Angels for battling back to STEAL a victory they had no business getting. It's tough to feel justice was served on this day.

Posted Jun 21/12 - Tri-City vs Richmond
The Indians travelled to Richmond Wednesday night looking to atone for the 6-2 drubbing they absorbed by the Chuckers just 7 days earlier. The Indians jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead over their hosts by picking up 2 runs in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd inning along with 2 more in top of 3. The Chuckers bounced back with 4 runs on a couple of Indians miscues in the bottom of the 3rd. The top of the 4 saw the Indians increase their lead to 9-4 but again the Chuckers batted back off SP Garinder before Lucas was brought in to quelch the Chuckers rally and leave the Indians up 9-5 after 4 innings. Lucas was solid through the 6th inning and Trevor pitched the 7th and looked sharp to seal the win. Indians added 5 runs in the 7th to win 14-5. Indians bats were alive in this one led by a 4 hit performance by Nic.

Posted Jun 18/12 - Indians bounce back with a DH sweep on Sunday
Following a mini 2 game losing slump the Indians got back to their winning ways by defeating Victoria Black 12-11 in a nail-biter and then upsetting the Vancouver Mounties 8-2 in a 6 inning shortened game in the nightcap. The day started with another fantastic effort by our "groundskeeper dads" who put in another fantastic effort so this great day of baseball could go ahead after the torrential downpours of Saturday. This is becoming an everyday affair at Bird Park, which is a beautiful diamond when the weather is nice, but pools water "like no other" when it rains. Thanks guys--the boys appreciate your efforts. Happy Belated Fathers Day.
