Posted Mar 5/11 - Longhorns Look Good In First 2011 Scrimmage

The first scrimmage of any season is often a little sloppy.  Players are often battling nerves and excitement.  Young players are often trying too hard to win a spot in the lineup or ensure their spot on the Varsity roster and even coaches can be a little rusty, but the Johnson County Longhorn Baseball Program is pleased with its scrimmage against the Mitchell County Mountaineers on Friday, March 4th.  We left North Carolina with a 12-0 win, but the win is not what we feel good about, although it's always nice to get those.  We feel good that we did not have any glaring mistakes.  The beautiful weather that we have had the last few weeks has allowed us to get a lot of field repetitions that we have not been able to get in recent years, and I think it showed on Friday.  Mark Jennings and Sammy Hampton, the two horses of our pitching staff, looked sharp in two innings of work apiece.  Junior, Andy Stout, pitched the fifth and final inning.  Sawyer Ward only had one hit and that was on a ball that he got the least of, because his three outs in his 1-4 performance were hard hit shots.  Harley Reece hit the ball hard and almost went yard.  Our young sophomores, Jacob Henson, Judd Hammons, and Ryan Mahala, all showed why we are so excited about their potential.  Everyone on the roster was able to get in the game and it was just a good day to be a Johnson County Longhorn.
