Posted Apr 5/11 - Postponement & Recap

Our scheduled home game against the Elizabethton Cyclones for today, Tuesday, April 5th, has been postponed.  It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 27th at 4:00 PM.

Johnson County was blessed to be able to get their game in vs. the Unicoi County Blue Devils yesterday, but that was almost the only positive for the Longhorns, as we left Baxter Field with a 6-1 loss and .500 (3-3) record in the Three Rivers Conference.  Mark Jennings (2-2), making his fourth start of the year, battled for five innings, but he did not have his best stuff.  #25 left several balls up in the zone that the Blue Devils took advantage of, as they hit four home runs on the afternoon.  In fairness to Jennings, each of those home runs should have been routine outs at our field, but in fairness to the Blue Devils, they hit home runs at their small ballpark, that other teams do not.  Sophomore shortstop, Judd Hammons, senior second baseman, Sawyer Ward, senior first baseman, Austin Humphrey, and Jennings all had base base hits for the Longhorns.  The only real highlight for Johnson County came when junior, Andy Stout, who has just been converted to an outfielder, threw a Unicoi runner out at the plate from left field.  We are at a pivotal point in our season.  On one hand we have already matched our Three Rivers Conference win total from 2010 (3), but on the other hand we have beat a struggling Happy Valley team twice and beat a Sullivan North team in a game that saw them save a good starting arm for another day, and throw untested and unproven pitchers against us.  We have lost twice to the Blue Devils (13-6 & 6-1) and are still looking at six baseball games against the Elizabethton Cyclones and Sullivan East Patriots.  We have had a lot of positives and good performances in the early going, but when the weather breaks and allows us to play baseball, we are at an important juncture of the 2011 season.  Thank you for your support of Longhorn Baseball.
