It is obvious to everyone in Northeast TN that the Johnson County Longhorn Baseball Program has made huge strides in 2011, but a deeper look at the numbers shows you just how far our program has come on the baseball diamond.  All of the numbers below are through 20 2011 games, as compared to 25 2010 games (including the 2010 District 1 AA Tournament). 

PITCHING STAFF
Our 2011 pitching staff has already threw 12 complete games. 
The 2010 staff only had a starter finish 7 games. 

The 2011 staff has only given up 121 hits through 20 games.
The 2010 staff gave up 169 hits.

The 2011 staff has gave up 81 earned runs. 
The 2010 staff gave up a whopping 149 earned runs!

The 2011 staff has walked 69 opposing batters.
The 2010 staff issued 108 base on balls (BB). 

The 2011 staff has given up only 7 home runs. 
The 2010 staff surrendered 19 long balls. 

The 2011 staff has hit 6 opposing batters.
The 2010 staff plunked 19 batters!

The 2011 staff has only given up a total of 96 runs through 20 games.
The 2010 staff gave up 188 runs in 25 games. 

OFFENSE 
The 2011 team has a .425 on base percentrage (OB%) and a .336 average. 
The 2010 club had a .383 OB% and a .301 team batting average. 

The 2011 team has 127 RBI through 20 games. 
The 2010 team knocked in only 8 more runs, in five more baseball games. 

The 2011 club has stolen 36 bases up to this point. 
The 2010 club waited for the long ball, and stole only 19 bags. 

The 2011 club has already hit 35 doubles (2B). 
The 2010 team only hit 33 two baggers. 

The 2011 team has scored 161 runs in 20 games. 
The 2010 team only scored three more (164) in 25 games. 

The 2011 team has hit 12 round trippers. 
The 2010 team did hit an impressive 19 home runs. 

INDIVIDUAL IMPROVEMENTS
Sawyer Ward
has moved to a run producing spot in the batting order (3rd) from the 2010 leadoff spot, and he has responded by knocking in an incredible 32 runs (15 in 2010).  He has 4 home runs up to this point, as compared to the 3 he hit in 2010.  He has 7 doubles in 2011 and hit only 4 in 2010.  Ward has hit 2 triples this year (vs. Hampton Bulldogs) and did not hit any in 2010.  He had 80 total at bats in 2010 and has did his damage this year in 67 at-bats. 

Danny Herman, when playing the position of catcher, often has a courtesy runner run for him.  In 2011, Herman or his courtesy runner, has scored 22 times in the 24 times that Herman has been on base.  His courtesy runner is often Christopher Ellis

Sammy Hampton and Austin Humphrey are sharing an on base percentage of .493.  They have both been on base 33 times in 20 games.  This is after Humphrey and Hampton were on base at clips of .224 and .284 respectively.  Hampton has also raised his batting average to .404 (.266 in 2010) and Austin Humphrey has raised his average to .379 from his disappointing .195 2010 batting average. 

Mark Jennings has lowered his ERA (earned run average) from 7.09 (2010) to a very nice 2.86.  He has 4 wins, a save, and a staff saving 5 complete games.  His run production has also improved on offense.  Jennings is hitting .361, as compared to his .329 2010 average.  Jennings has knocked in 19 runs, which is good for second on the club, as compared to his 13 2010 RBI.
