Posted Sep 23/09 - 007s Clip Angels Wings

The bats came alive and the defense put their offense to sleep. In a huge showing after Sunday's split the 007's put it all together and handed Charlie's Angels a 16-2 defeat Tuesday night at Little Mountain Park.

With a three run home run by Charles Smadella, a grand slam by one of the silver foxes Rick Sheppard - his first of the year and a 2 run double by Jeff Clark the 007's had more than enough offense to finish the game - but the runs kept coming in the way of a singles parade and a lot of hustle that forced errors by Charlie's Angels defense.

There was also two great pitching performances by Michelle Ford and Jeff Clark - coincidentally both pitchers faced some heat coming back at the mound - Michelle caught hers, unfortunately Jeff was not so lucky and caught it right below his "just cleared by doctors" knee. He will be a gametime decision - manager Charles Smadella was quoted as saying "You hat to see these things happen but they are unfortunately part of the game - we have Jeff down as Questionable for Thursday and may play 6 guys - 4 girls." - the team will also be without Kevin Grant for the game.

The skipper was also happy about the defense in the game, "We were more safe play oriented the outfield making all sorts of catches and minimizing errors, and the infield doing the same - taking the easy play - leaving things set up - something we need to keep working on."

The win was extra sweet by being a great effort against a trio of former thirsty nine team-mates Charlie, Trevor and Trudy. It puts the 007's in sole posession of first place in the division at 8-6-1 - a half game up on second place DC vs Marvel.

The 007's next game will be on Thursday at 6:15 Diamond 3C vs the 5-9 Supa Flies...tickets are still available, citronella candles oddly enough - are sold out. Special thanks to Josh Mazurat who almost came out of the stands to lead off the game for the team but a few last minute arrivals meant the EDGE hoodie could stay on!
