Posted Mar 21/12 - JCHS Wins First Conference Game Behind Mahala's Quality Effort
If the JCHS Longhorns play quality baseball for the remainder of the 2012 season, we may look back at Tuesday, March 20th as the day that jump started that quality ball.  Here are some highlights and notes:

*Ryan Mahala improved to 2-0 on the season, throwing 111 pitches (69 for strikes) in a complete game effort.  Mahala pounded Sullivan North Raider batters with fastballs, striking out five in the process.  He also went 2-3 at the plate, with a double.

*Daniel Helm continues to be the offensive force we have always believed he has the ability to be.  The big 1B went 2-3 with a double and gave the Longhorns the win on sacrifice fly to left field that scored Judd Hammons

*Speaking of Hammons, he led off the bottom of the 7th with a single past the Raider shortstop, recorded a stolen baseball, and advanced to 3B on a Jacob Henson sacrifice fly, before tagging up and scoring on Helm's deep fly ball.

*Dusty Stout had the first two hit game of his JCHS Varsity career while starting the game at catcher, before moving to right field after getting his throwing hand banged up behind the dish.  D. Stout scored a run as well.

*Jacob Henson recorded a base hit and scored after stealing 2B when the throw from the catcher went deep into the OF.

*Sam Thomas had a base knock for the home team, while Andy Stout drew a walk.

The JV Longhorns recorded their second win of the young 2012 season, defeating the Holston Cavaliers by the score of 12-2.  Sam Thomas did not surrender a hit over his five innings of work.
