Posted Mar 25/12 - Tough, Tough Loss For JCHS

Sullivan Central High School has been a place the Johnson County Longhorns have not played good baseball at in the last several years.  For six innings on Friday, that changed.  After six innings Andy Woods had given up only two hits and surrendered only 1 run (unearned).  Unfortunately high school baseball games are 7 inning affairs.  The Cougars exploded for six hits and five runs in the bottom of the 7th to earn a walk off win.  I told the players not to let the last inning take away from the good baseball they played the first six innings, but it was a tough, tough loss.  Here are some highlights:

*Jacob Henson continued his solid all around beginning to the 2012 season, as the junior had two hits, including a 2B (double), stole a base, and scored twice.  He also got good jumps on a couple of fly balls in centerfield.

*Second baseman, Chad Hodgkiss, had two hits and stole a base.

*Daniel Helm stayed hot, as the big 1B also had two hits, including an RBI double down the left field line.  The double came after Helm had been hit by back to back pitches, but the home plate umpire ruled that the "the hand is part of the bat."  Daniel now has 9 RBI on the season in only 7 games played.

*Ryan Mahala reached safely twice, once with a 1B, and also being hit by a pitch.

*Ryan Smith received the start at catcher, and responded offensively with a RBI double down the left field line, a hustling double into second base.
