Posted Apr 3/12 - COMEBACK WIN FOR PIRATES

Highline returned to the win column in their "Home Opener" on Tuesday coming from behind for a 5-3 win over Hazen.  Jonny Locher staked the Pirates to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the first.  Hazen knotted the score in the top of the third but Highline responded with a run of their own when Mitchell McCartney doubled over the left fielders head.  Cole Porter was pitching masterfully until the sixth when a hanging curveball was bounced off the scoreboard in left, giving the Highlanders a 3-2 lead.  Freshman, Jordan Sagmoen came on in relief and hurled two strikeouts and a grounder to get out of the inning.  It was time for the Pirates to answer back and indeed they did.  Two walks and a Danny Teja single loaded the bases. With one out, Hazen went to their ace pitcher who fanned the next Highline batter bringing up Sagmoen with two outs.  The unaffected frosh took the first pitch to the opposite field for a two RBI single.  With runners on first and third Highline ran a delayed steal that plated an insurance run making the score 5-3 heading into the seventh.  Jonny Locher was called upon for his first "Save" opportunity of the year and closed the door with a pair of strikeouts.

The victory improves the Highline record to 4-1 on the year.  Another home game is scheduled for tomorrow as Tyee comes to Moshier for a 3:30 game.
