Posted Apr 10/12 - JCHS Sweeps North In Varsity/JV Doubleheader
The Longhorns earned their third conference win of the 2012 season and second victory over the Sullivan North Raiders this season on Monday, April 9th.  Ryan Mahala improved to 4-1 on the season, Judd Hammons batting average soared, and Dusty Stout continues to make up for lost time.  Hightlights below:

*Ryan Mahala threw 119 pitches, continuing to work deep in games for Johnson County.  It was Mahala's fourth complete game (CG) of the season.  He got ahead in the county by throwing a first pitch strike 59% of the time.  Ryan struck out six Raider batters, against six walks.  Mahala has struck out 30 batters in 34 and 1/3 innings on the year.

*Shortstop, Judd Hammons batting average has been slowly rising, as he came into Monday's game with a .270 average, but after his 3-3 performance, Hammon's is now hitting .325.  He also knocked in this fourth run of the season with a base hit in the top of the 6th.

*Dusty Stout continues to impress.  He has played nice defense in both corner outfield slots, and on Monday accomplished a rarity, as he recorded three infield base hits on three bunts (two push bunts and a drag bunt).  Stout is now hitting a very impressive .389 on the year.

*Daniel Helm has been the most consistent Longhorn hitter in 2012.  Monday Daniel recorded a base hit, knocked in a run, and scored a run.  He is hitting .463 on the season, which has to be one of the highest averages in the Three Rivers Conference.

*Third baseman, Harley Reece, hit two doubles and knocked in two runs.  It was the sixth double and ninth and tenth runs batted in for Harley.

Mahala, Jacob Henson, and Ryan Smith
also recorded base knocks for the visiting team.

Henson got some needed mound work in the JV game, as Jacob threw 95 pitches, which is far and away his highest pitch count total of the 2012 season.  He struck out six Raider JV batters in a complete game win.

*Jon Vannoy contined his impressive JV season on Monday, by hitting his first career home run, a 2-run line drive shot, over the left field wall.

*Andy Woods (batter) and Judd Hammons (courtesy runner) executed an impressive suicide squeeze in the top of the 5th.

*Blade Hampton recorded a 2-run double and continues to show improvement and increased confidence behind the plate.

*River Cazire produced two singles, stole two bases, and scored a run in the 8-5 JV Longhorn win.

*First baseman, Jake Sutherland, recorded two base hits, to continue his consistent offensive season.

*Second baseman, Nathaniel Graybeal, drew two walks and is looking more and more comfortable at his new second base position.
