Posted Apr 18/12 - JCHS Stuns UCHS
For the second time in school history Johnson County High School has defeated Unicoi County High School on the baseball diamond, with both wins coming at Baxter Field.  Ryan Mahala was dominant on Tuesday afternoon!  The strong armed right hander threw a complete game shutout, surrendering only six hits, walking three, and striking out eleven Blue Devil batters.  Mahala threw 124 pitches and 76% of the time he got ahead in the county with a first pitch strike.  Ryan improved his record to 5-1 on the season and an even more impressive 4-1 against Three Rivers Conference teams.

*The only JCHS run came when Judd Hammons led off the game with a double down the left field line off of Unicoi starting pitcher, B. Foy.  Hammons advanced to third base on a Foy wild pitch and scored when left fielder, Dusty Stout, grounded out to Blue Devil shortstop, G. Whitson.

*Unicoi threatened in the bottom of the 7th.  H. Goddard singled to right field with one out.  The next batter, leadoff hitter, A. Green, hit a shot to the right-center gap.  Right fielder, Andy Stout, fielded the ball at the fence and fired it to his cutt-off man, first baseman, Daniel Helm, who hit catcher, Ryan Smith to cut, Goddard, the tying run, at the plate!  Green advanced to third base, but there were now two outs.  Mahala got catcher, Timy Graham to pop out to Judd Hammons to end the game!

*JCHS is now over .500 (9-8) for the first time this season and has won two consecutive Three Rivers Conference games for the first time this season.
