Posted Apr 22/12 - JV Longhorns Stun JV David Crockett Pioneers
Sam Thomas pitched the best baseball of his young career for four innings on Saturday, holding the David Crockett Pioneers to three hits and three runs before tiring in the fifth inning.  Thomas struck out four Pioneer batters in the game one win.  The JV Longhorns got a little sloppy in a 7-1 game two loss.  Highlights are below:

*Centerfielder, River Cazire, who has been playing nice defense since being moved to the middle of the outfield, went 2-5 on the day with two runs scored and a stolen base, his seventh stolen base of the JV season.  Cazire has a .359 on base percentage on the JV season.

*#36, Thomas, earnd his JV leading fourth win of the 2012 season.  He also hit his third double.

*Catcher, Blade Hampton, who continues to learn and improve on defense, knocked in a run with a two out base hit in the bottom of the third inning in the first game.

*Freshman, Harley Stout, had a base knock on the day and made a nice sliding catch in left field.  Stout scored his seventh run of the year.

*Junior, Andy Woods, went 4-4 on the day.  He played third base in game one when Thomas pitched, and his usual left field slot in the second game.  Woods stole home and scored a run on the back end of a double steal in the bottom of the fourth in the opening game.  Andy raised his season batting average to .375.

*Jon Vannoy went 2-2 in the first game of the doubleheader and pitched in relif in both games.  Vannoy recorded the final three outs of the win.  Jon has now pitched in five games this season and is hitting .333 on the season, receiving most of his at-bats from the designated hitter slot.

*Adam Worley, playing shortstop, reached base three times on the day.  He walked in the first game and drew another walk and recorded a base hit in game #2.

*First baseman, Jake Sutherland, was hit by three pitches on the day.  We call balls that hit batters "ugly finders."  Sutherland has been hit by eight of those balls this season.

The JV Longhorns have a .500 record (7-7) going into Monday's game vs. the Elizabethton Cyclones.
