Posted Apr 25/12 - JCHS Locks Up Fourth Place
What else can be said about Ryan Mahala that has not already been said during the 2012 season?  The big right hander defeated the Sullivan North Raiders for the third time this season, giving JCHS our first three game season sweep of a team since the Three Rivers Conference started playing each team three times in the 2010 season.  Mahala is having the best season for a Johnson County pitcher in over a decade, but Tuesday's win was a total team effort. Highlights are below:

*Shortstop, Judd Hammons, raised his season batting average to a season high .403.  Hammons went 2-2 with two walks, a stolen base (7th of the season) and an RBI.

*Mahala threw 106 pitches on the day, with an amazing 73 of them being for strikes.  Ryan got ahead in the count 0-1 a staggering 81% of the time.  He is also starting to heat back up at the plate, as he recorded a base knock on the afternoon.

*Daniel Helm raised his season batting average to .462.  The first baseman recorded his first career triple in the bottom of the 5th.  He went 3-4 on the day with two runs batted in.

*Andy Stout had a base hit on the day from the nine spot in the lineup.

*Dusty Stout went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

*A contribution that should not be overlooked is the contribution of two reserves and a spot starter in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Andy Woods, who went in the game in the top of the 6th as a defensive replacement for Blade Hampton, who started his first career game in right field, to get his bat in the lineup, scorched a base hit to left field with one out.  Bobby Taylor, pinch hitting for second baseman, Chad Hodgkiss, drew a walk in a tough at-bat.  River Cazire, who started in left field for Johnson County, hit a line drive shot to right field to load the bases (WoodsTaylor, Cazire).  After an Andy Stout pop out, Judd Hammons drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Woods, for a two out RBI.  Dusty Stout then singled to right field to score Taylor from 3B.  Our fifth and sixth runs, insurance runs, crossed the plate thanks to contributions from guys stepping up when given the opportunity.

*Hodgkiss had a nice push bunt base hit for the home team in the bottom of the second inning.

*Jon Vannoy reached base as a pinch hitter in the botton of the 5th and scored the second Longhorn run.

Our sixth conference win of the season is one more than we had during the 2011 regular season.  We host Sullivan East on Monday, looking to get our seventh conference win of the season.
