Posted May 19/12 - Historic Season

The most successful postseason run in school history started in the regular season.

*We beat Unicoi County on April 17th for the first time since 2006 and only the second time in school history-Box Score

*We beat the Sullivan East Patriots for the first time since they joined the Three Rivers Conferene in 2010 on Monday, April 30th, dropping them from a District 1 AA Tournament first round bye as the #2 seed, to having to play in the first round as the #3 seed-Box Score.

*We beat the Sullivan North Raiders in the opening round of the District 1 AA Tournament on Friday, May 4th, behind a tremendous outing from right handed pitcher, Harley Reece, who we started over staff ace, Ryan Mahala (saving him), and a two out, two strike, extra innings double by senior second baseman, Chad Hodgkiss, down the right field line, scoring Jacob Henson and River Cazire, who both reached on errors (hey, sometimes you need a little luck). *The next day, Saturday, May 5th, we beat the #1 seed, regular season champion, Elizabethton Cyclones, behind a dominant pitching performance from Mahala, three first inning runs, and some great defense at shortstop from Judd Hammons and first base from Daniel Helm. Box Score

*The next day, Sunday, May 6th, we beat the Unicoi Couny Blue Devils for the third time in school history and the second time in 2012, behind a gutsy start from Reece on one day of rest, and a gutsy relief appearance from Mahala, on no rest! Box Score This game advanced us to the District 1 AA Tournament Championshp and a Region 1 AA Semifinal game.

*After we dropped two games to the Unicoi County Blue Devils to finish second in the District 1 AA Tournament for only the third time in school history, we had to travel to the District 2 champion, Greeneville Greene Devils, who had beat Sullivan East (2010) and the Elizabethton Cyclones (2011) in a region semifinal game the previous two years. We left Greeneville with a 5-1 win and a trip to the Region 1 championship and a sectional game. This was the first region win in school history. Box Score
