In an error filled game that no one seemed to want to win, the Cards prevailed squeaking out a 9-8 victory over the visiting Muenster Red Socks. The Socks scored one in the 1st, but Reid Britnell answered back in the Cards half of the inning with a towering 3 RBI homerun. The Cards looked like they were going to win easily when they built a 6 run lead off a two run triple by Graham Forrester, but that crumbled in the bottom of the 6th when the Socks tied the game at 8. In the bottom of the 6th, the Cards were denied the go ahead run when Justin Walter was called out on a close play at the plate when he tried to steal on a passed ball. Down to their last out, Garrett Krawchuk walked and was then driven home by Shawn Lewis to win the game.
Bryden Gore started on the mound for the Cardinals going 3 innings with 4 K’s and allowing 3 runs. Shawn Lewis went two innings with 4 Ks and a walk, RJ Vinding went two-thirds of an inning allowing 5 runs. Ethan Meyer got the save going 1-2/3 innings with 4Ks.
“This was a big win. We learn a lot when we play games like this” stated the Cardinals Head Coach Darren Crilly. Crilly indicated that the team will have to play better if they want to win any games in St. Albert next weekend.
The Cardinals next action is Thursday night a 6:00 pm when they play host to the Humboldt Dodgers.
