May 5th-- The Indians then travelled up Island to Courtney to take on the 6-6 North Island Royals who were fresh off a 9-2 drubbing of the Burnaby Braves the previous day. The game featured an outstanding pitching performance from Jacob Doyle who went 6 innings and fanned 7 Royals hitters. Alan came on to pitch the 7th to close out the 10-0 victory over the host Royals; who had used their Ace the day prior vs Burnaby. Jordan got the Indians off to a great start, hammering an 0-2 pitch over the left-field fence leading off the game. Riley Engleson would also go yard in the 2nd for the 1st of his 3 hits on the day. Alan and Coleton had a pair of hits each to chip in on the offence.
Game 2--The Indians started Jordan and got off to a quick 5-0 lead in what looked like it would be a repeat of game 1 but the Royals battled back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th to close the gap to 5-4 and left 2 runners on base {2nd+3rd} as well before Jordan K'd the #5 hitter. The Indians then woke up and pounded in 9 runs in the 6th to jump out to a 14-4 lead. Jordan led the offence with 4 hits and Kyle reached base 4 times-scoring twice. Matt Clay and Riley had 2 hits each and Coleton closed out the 6th inning on the mound, as the Indians took the game 14-4; improving their record to 10-2 on the season.
Up-coming games this week feature at home vs the highly ranked Vancouver Mounties on Thursday and then a visit to the #1 ranked team so far this season; the Cloverdale Spurs on Saturday. These two very difficult games will let the coaching staff know if we are contenders or pretenders.
