Posted Apr 27/10 - No rest for Longhorns going into District Tournament

Inclement weather has forced the Longhorns to play six games in four days next week, to conclude the 2010 regular season.  We host Sullivan East in a doubleheader on Monday.  One game is a make-up from a Monday, March 29th washout.  Although we want to win everygame, the games against East are not as important as Tuesday's doubleheader vs. Sullivan North.  The North doubleheader will be played because of the rain-out on Tuesday, April 27th.  After those four games, the Elizabethton Cyclones come to town on Wednesday.  This is a result of the postponed game, this past Monday, April 26th.  If that is not enough, the Hampton Bulldogs come to town on Thursday, for senior night.  The Sullivan North doubleheader is the most important, because we are one game ahead of them in the Three Rivers Conference.  We have 2 conference wins, to their 1, against us on Monday, April 12th.  If we split (win one of two) with the Raiders on Tuesday, that assures us of staying out of the conference basement going into the district tournament.  Wednesday's game against Elizabethton may be huge in determing seeding for the district tournament, but it also may not matter.  It depends on Elizabethton's conference record going into that game.  We have to be very careful with our pitching staff next week, because we do not want to have a starting pitcher unavailable next weekend, as we go into the tournament.  That is why we may have to throw some inexperienced pitchers on Monday against East, and make sure we have Cody Greer, Sammy Hampton, and if needed, Mark Jennings and Zack Hayworth, to pitch against Sullivan North.  Again, Wednesday's game may or may not matter as far as the conference standings go, and we have to think about our plan of attack on Thursday against Hampton, but we have to be careful, because we want to give our baseball club the best chance to succeed in the tournament, and that starts with having the pitcher we want, on the mound.
