Posted May 23/14 - HUMBOLDT HUMBLES CARDS 8-1

Humboldt, SK: For the second game in a row, the Cardinals hit the ball and for the second game in a row, the Cardinals hit the ball hard.  However, for the second game in a row the Cardinals seemed to hit the ball right at Humboldt who beat the Cardinals 8-1 on Thursday night.  The only highlight for Cardinals was a Shawn Lewis triple to right field in the 3rd inning.  Lewis later scored for the Cardinals only run.

Graham Forrester started on the mound for the Cardinals pitching a solid game.  Forrester started the second inning tied at 0-0, but the Cardinals defence gave up four unearned runs to leaving them down by four.  Forrester went on to pitch two more scoreless innings before being relieved by Garrett Krawchuk.  Krawchuk pitched out of a jam in the 5th inning, helped by an appeal at home plate and it looked like the Cardinals had a shot. However, Humboldt's bats went to work in the 6th inning when they added four runs on three hits.

Cardinals Coach Greg Krawchuk was left shaking his head after the loss.  “I don’t want to make excuses, but we hit the ball hard tonight, we just could not find any gaps” Krawchuk said.  “I don’t think we had a walk and I bet we only had three strikeouts all night”.

The Cardinals have the weekend off before returning home on Tuesday to play Humboldt in the second game of the home and home series.  The game is scheduled for Nutana No. 2 with the first pitch at 6:30 pm.
