The Warroad Muskies began the 2010 season with the majority
of their roster intact from last year and have high hopes going into the
season.The first matchup was a
doubleheader on June 6th against the Blue Ox of Bemidji, who ousted the
Muskies in the Northwest Border League baseball playoffs last summer in two
games. After some quick cleanup from the previous
nights’ storms, the first game began with Kyle Nowacki on the mound for
Warroad. After a quick top half of the first
inning, the Muskies crossed the plate the first time of the year after Kyle
Krahn hit a single that scored Bryce Demolee from second. In the bottom of the 2nd, a
leadoff walk led to a 2-out RBI single for Demolee.Warroad added another run in the third as
Brent Culleton hit a dribbler up the middle to score a hustling Krahn from
second.Nowacki would give way to Lars
Anderson in the fifth inning and Anderson would continue close out the game to
get the Muskies their first win of the season, 3-0.Kyle Nowacki pitched 4 innings giving up 1
hit and striking out 8, with Jed Anderson picking up with the win while
allowing no hits and striking out 5.At
the plate the Muskies were led by Kyle Krahn 2-3 with an RBI and a Run, Bryce
Demolee 1-2 with an RBI and Run, and Brent Culleton 2-2 with an RBI.
Adam Knebel toed the rubber for game number 2 and ran into
trouble in the first inning as the Blue Ox capatilized early by scoring 3 runs
off of a Sacrifice fly and a 2 run double. The Muskies would tie the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI
single by Matt Heddan and a 2 RBI single by Shane Friesner. But the Blue Ox would snatch the lead right
back after 3 straight 2-out singles would score one to give Bemidji a 4-3
lead.Knebel would pitch two more
scoreless innings before giving way to Bryce Demolee with the Muskies still
trailing.The Muskies had one last
chance in the bottom of the seventh, after Demolee reached second base after a
single and stolen base, and Krahn reached first on an error. With 2 outs and a full count for Kyle Demolee
at the plate, Krahn took off for second after a pickoff attempt by the pitcher,
B. Demolee waited for the first baseman to commit before sprinting for home for
the tying score.Demolee struck out the
side in the top of the 8th before Friesner capped off a terrific
game in walk off fashion with a deep line drive single to score Anderson from
second..Bryce Demolee picked up the win by allowing
no runs, no hits, and striking out 5 in three innings of work, Adam Knebel
pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and also striking out 5.Friesner led the way by going 2-5 with 3
