Posted Mar 21/11 - Highline Hands Victory to Lindbergh

Too many errors and two many missed opportunities spelled defeat for the Pirates on Monday night.  Lindbergh snuck away wth a 5-4 victory on Moshier Field.  The Pirates outhit the Eagles 10-6 but squandered a great scoring opportunity in the first.  Jonny Locher led off with a double to straight away center.  Jeff Kemp then hit a gapper but Locher had to hold up to see if the ball would be caught.  When it dropped in, Jonny could only advance to third.  Logan Brickell ripped a solid line drive right at the first baseman for the first out.  Jacob Wydick walked to load the bases and then a hard grounder down the third baseline from Nick Mead tuned into an inning-endng double play.  Caleb Ramirez started for Highline and, aside from a solo homerun in the third, pitched well enough to win.  However, a three error fifth inning gave Lindbergh two more runs and a 3-0 lead.  Highline responded with a four run bottom of the fifth, which was aided by two Eagle errors.  Lindbergh aswered back with a pair of runs in the sixth to retake the lead.  Highline left two runners on base in the bottom half and couldn't muster much in the seventh, sending the home crowd home with a loss.  Wydick and Locher each had three hits to lead the attack.  Next action for the Pirates is today with a 3:30 make up game against Foster on Moshier Field.
