Posted Apr 18/11 - STREAKING PIRATES PUMMEL WOLVERINES
An eight run first inning propelled the Pirates to a 17-4 victory at Evergreen on Monday afternoon.  Highline's first inning outburst was generated with only two basehits.  Six bases-on-balls and two Evergreen errors accounted for most of the damage.  The Wolverines made things interesting though, by scoring two runs in the second and two more in the third to narrow the Highline lead to 10-4.  The fourth inning saw Highline's bats re-awaken with a two-out seven run outburst to put the game out of reach.  Cole Porter got the win on the hill throwing the first three innings.  Ryan Ward came on in relief and struck out five of the six batters he faced.  The offense was led by Jonny Locher and Logan Brickell who were both 2-for-3 on the day.  The win improves the Pirates league record to 7-2 with a crucial game tomorrow (Tuesday) at Kennedy.
