Posted Jun 26/11 - Bailey/Pelletier Combine to 1-hit Mounties in 3-2 Victory

The Ridge Meadows Royals added to their impressive win total with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Mounties at Pitt Meadows Athletic on Sunday afternoon.  Royals batters outhit their Mountie counterparts 8-1 on the day so all things considered the score was somewhat flattering for the visitors.

Although, Royals pitching combination of Bailey and Pelletier limited the Mounties to only one hit they did issue 5 free passes which lead to one unearned run being scored.

Offensively, McMaster and Jonsen had doubles in the first inning with each of them finishing the game 2 for 3.  Bailey helped his own cause in 2nd inning registering an RBI on a fielder's choice to the right side of the infield.  Halstrom scored the second run of the game after hitting a double that nearly left the park going the other way off the right field fence.  The winning run was scored by Bird who reached on a single.  He then came around to score when the Mountie shortstop could not get his throw on line after seeing a speeding McMaster running down the line on a slow roller in front of him.

Mounties went down in order in the sixth after a questionable 2 out attempted steal of third base, 3rd out at 3rd base?  In the 7th, Mounties recorded two quick outs and then reached on an error.  The error was a chopper just in reach of Pelletier at the back of the mound but Pelletier couldn't complete the throw after stepping on the back of the mound while throwing.  The game ended with that runner at 3rd base when Pelletier K'ed the final Mountie batter looking.

Just before the handshake, a Mountie player was ejected for verbally abusing the umpire.  This came as a surprise as there was no controversy throughout the game.  Either way the Royals get their 20th win of the season on a well played game by both teams.
