LAKEFIELD — Heron Lake scored three runs in the top of the ninth
inning to knock off Lakefield 3-0 in First Nite League amateur baseball
action Wednesday. HL’s Thomas Albrecht and Lakefield’s Bryce
Christopher were matching one another pitch for pitch through the first
eight innings, but the Lakers got to the Hornfrogs’ bullpen, getting
five straight hits with one out in the top of the ninth. Matt
Franks (2-for-4) hit a two-run single to score Ethan Duffy (2-for-4) and Lucas Knutson, who was running for Albrecht (1-for-4 with a double), to make it 2-0. Ike Rogers (1-for-4) hit a double
to score Franks to complete the game's scoring. Kirk McBreen and Tony Jorgensen each went 1-for-3 in the game for the Lakers.
Albrecht tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 12, while scattering five walks and three hits for HL. Christopher struck out 11 and allowed three hits and two walks in eight innings on the mound for Lakefield. Trevor Hage led the hosts at the plate with a 2-for-4.
