Posted Jun 18/12 - Indians bounce back with a DH sweep on Sunday
Following a mini 2 game losing slump the Indians got back to their winning ways by defeating Victoria Black 12-11 in a nail-biter and then upsetting the Vancouver Mounties 8-2 in a 6 inning shortened game in the nightcap. The day started with another fantastic effort by our "groundskeeper dads" who put in another fantastic effort so this great day of baseball could go ahead after the torrential downpours of Saturday. This is becoming an everyday affair at Bird Park, which is a beautiful diamond when the weather is nice, but pools water "like no other" when it rains. Thanks guys--the boys appreciate your efforts. Happy Belated Fathers Day.

The first game with Victoria was a back and forth affair with the Indians falling down 2-0 early before jumping out to a 9-2 lead behind strong pitching from Jordan. Victoria cut the lead to 9-7 before the Indians scored 3 to go up 12-7. Black battled back on a 3 run homer in the top of 7 and had the tying run on 2nd with no outs before Drew came in to get the save needing only 8 pitches in a clutch performance. The low pitch count save would come in very handy as he "drew" {pun intended} the start vs the Mounties.

This was the first match-up of the season vs the powerful Vancouver Mounties organization led by their legendary "affable" manager Ted Pawlik. This game would give the Indians a chance to measure themselves against their favoured opponents who had been shocked in their earlier game with an 8-6 defeat at the hands of Victoria Black. The Mounties and Cloverdale Black have been the class of the Bantam AAA league this year and the Indians will see plenty of them over the next 2 weeks. Indians got off to a quick start scoring twice in the 1st and adding 3 more in the 2nd to jump to a 5-0 lead over a Mounties team that was understandably reeling from their tough defeat just 45 minutes earlier. Drew pitched a great game and was backed by solid hitting by Dignan and others as the Indians prevailed 8-2 in a game called after 6 innings when the lights failed to come on. Garinder came in and closed the door relieving Drew in the 6th. Nic was outstanding behind the dish in the game throwing out the only Mountie basestealer. The Indians team apologizes to the Mounties team for the lights snafu and have arranged so it will not happen again. This day belonged to the Indians but wise ball men know that the Mounties are a great team and will bounce back with a vengeance on July 7th when the teams meet again.

This Wednesday the Indians travel to Richmond to attempt to avenge a 6-2 shellacking they absorbed last Wednesday by a much improved Richmond Chuckers squad. Manager Alex Klenman has done a great job turning that team around as they prepare to host the Provincials in August. It should be a spirited affair. Just to give you a heads up Alex--Indians HAVE changed their signals!! See you Wednesday.
